"Excuse me, Sir?" Genna approached the waiting brownrider cautiously.
"Are you K'ale of brown Imalkyth? I've been told he would like some
help washing his dragon." It was a nice thing for both candidate and
rider, she figured. The candidate got some experience with dragons and
the rider got some help in the massive task that was bathing a
full-grown dragon.

K'ale smiled at the pretty young candidate. "No need to call me sir,"
he smiled. "I am," he nodded in answer to her question. "And this is
Imalkyth," he added indicating the pecan brown dragon emerging from
the lake waters.

"Oh, he's gorgeous," Genna smiled eagerly as she admired the brown.
"I have to admit this is my first time washing a dragon, so I might
need a little more explaining than you are used to.." she trailed off.

Imalkyth arched his neck and flared his wings at the praise and K'ale
rolled his eyes. Then he smiled "and what's _your_ name?"

"Oh, pardon me," Genna said, inwardly scolding herself for forgetting
her manners, as she gave him a sweet apologetic smile. "I'm Genna. I
guess I am a little over excited about getting up close an personal
with a real dragon." Of course there had been her ride to and from the
hatching and then to the Weyr, but this was still a different matter.

"Nice to meet you Genna," the brownrider smiled at the girl. "Have you
been here long?" He knew he'd seen her about but wasn't quite sure for
now long.

"About a month," Genna smiled back, relaxing again at the rider's
pleasant attitude. "I was here at the last hatching too, though. Fell
in love with the place and came back!" She actually winked playfully,
before realizing her manners and looking away, trying to suppress a
grin.

K'ale chuckled, "How are you liking being here as a Candidate?" He'd
noted the white single cord on her shoulder that marked her as a
candidate.

"Oh, so far it's wonderful!" Genna nodded. "I mean, everything is
different than back home and that is a good, good thing." People
cheated here too, especially in Flights, but at least no one pretended
not to be.

"I'm glad," he said. It seemed to him that he'd just been a candidate
himself not all that long ago, but had he really been that young and
eager. "It's different that is true. But you work hard and you'll do
great."

"I hope so," Genna nodded. "It kinda sucks that working hard doesn't
give you any garantuees, you know?" she shrugged, but then shook of
that thought. "Anyway, where do I start?"

"True," he said. "But you were searched. So that means you have what
it takes. Grab that brush. Start at the front. "

Imalkyth's head curved down and he blew a soft breath against her tunic.

A soft giggle escaped Genna at the feel of Imalkyth's breath and she
looked up at him. "Hello Imalkyth, do you mind if I help out washing?"
she asked out of politeness as she picked up the brush.

"He doesn't mind at all if a pretty girl washes him," K'ale winked.

"Oh, well, I'd better go find one for him then," Genna winked back
merrily, before starting on her task. Flirting felt so much lighter at
the Weyr. There was no need to wonder if the person that was flirting
you was of high enough standing and what he meant with it. Here it was
just all in good fun and she loved it.

He knew that smile and wink, "Like to get some dinner later," he asked
hopefully while he washed the other side of his big brown.

"Oh, that would be nice!" Genna replied gladly, reveling at being to
say that so spontaneously, without having to think what being seen
with this man at dinner would do to her reputation. "Am I doing this
right?" she asked as she continued scrubbing down Imalkyth with overly
light, circular movements.

"Great," he smiled and went back to work. "Oh he says you can scrub harder."

"Oh, right, how do I know if I'm not scrubbing too hard?" she asked
curiously as she increased the pressure on her brush.

K'ale let out a laugh, "I'm sorry," he said to the young woman. "He
says you aren't strong enough to scrub too hard."

Genna laugh-snorted at her own misconception. "I see, I guess that
makes sense and makes me look a a bit silly."

"Oh no," K'ale shook his head. "Imalkyth just has a sense of humor. It
took forever to get him to stop pushing me in the lake every time I
got in range. _Don't_!" he yelled at the brown but it was already too
late and he was flying through the air.

"Oh dear," Genna stood at the side of the lake, chuckling at K'ale's
misfortune. "Looks like you still haven't gotten him to stop
entirely."

The only thing hurt was his pride and he walked out of the lake
shaking his head like a canine with water dripping off him. "These are
my flying trousers you big bully," he yelled in mock outrage. "And
you're not helping," he shook his finger at Genna. But the grin on his
face said he wasn't really angry. "At least the bating pools are hot
and I can go warm up after we're done."

"Yes, no need to yell at your poor innocent dragon," Genna said
sweetly. "I mean, he's only playing after all." There was a
mischievous sparkle in her eyes. Oh how she loved the Weyr. Messing
around like this had been so strictly forbidden to her for so many
Turns.

"Mmhmm," K'ale nodded and then a smile quirked the corner of his mouth
as a big brown head curved around to toss the girl into the water as
well.

Genna shrieked loudly as she was tossed into the water, spluttering as
she came up, drenched and an utterly indignant expression on her face.
"Imalkyth, did you do that? That was very un-gentleman-like of you,
Sir!" But there was clear humor in her voice that was hard to miss.

"Imalkyth!" K'ale didn't hide his smile. "Don't shove ladies in the
water! How many times have we talked about this?" He held out a hand
to the soaked girl. "You'll probably want to go change," he said
through a laugh. "I'm sorry... really." The humor didn't leave his
eyes even though he tried very hard to be serious.

Genna took his hand with a grin and made her way back onto the sand.
"That's okay, I expected to get wet washing a dragon," she chuckled.
Well, okay, maybe not _this_ wet.

"Well," K'ale smiled. "I'm thinking he can finish by himself and we
can go get warm. Want to go to the bathing pools or..."

Genna hesitated. What did he mean exactly? She might like to flirt,
but in certain aspects she was still very much a Hold girl.

"I should probably get back to the barracks."

"Probably a good idea," he replied and headed for a nice hot soak.
