Description: Illiana finds a feline and returns him to Gaiya
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 19 of Turn 3

Dasha was on a trail, something had caught her noses attention and she was following it through the halls and out into the dinning cavern, then finally out into the weyr bowl where she almost ran into what she had been trailing, a feline. A big black feline. Illiana wasn't far behind her canine, and when she spotted the large feline she called Dasha to her side, for fear that hte feline might take a swing at he canines nose.

"Pepper! Pepper!" Shards, Ar'lis must have left the door open a crack that morning for the silly black feline was nowhere to be found.
"Pepper!" Gaiya's frantic voice called down the hall and towards the smell of food. The warm harth and endless mound of scraps had proved irresistable to the feline in the past, and Gaiya hoped she was on the right track.

"Sit Dasha, stay." Illiana did the hand commands to the canine and walked over to the feline. "Now I don't think you belong out here in the weyr bowl." She could tell by the animals body actions that he had no interest in harming her so she ventured to scratch under his chin as she scanned the bowl to see if anyone looked like they were missing a feline.

Pepper didn't seem to be in the kitchens, and so Gaiya thought of the feline's other favorite place... the trees! "Shards, not again! Ar'lis will kill me!" She ran out of the door of the Weyr and into the blinding sun of the Weyrbowl. "Peeeeeppeeeeer!"

Illiana and Dasha both turned their heads to look over their shoulder, the candidate looked back at the feline. "Well you look like you could certainly be a Pepper." She stood up and turned in the young womans direction. "Excuse me miss, but the 'Pepper' you are looking for doesn't happen to be a big black feline does it?"

"Yes!" Gaiya cried with relief. "Oh, I'm so sorry! He got out of the weyr again this morning. And the Weyr too, it seems," she said with a sweep of her hand in the general direction of the stone cliffs. "Here, I'll take him from you. I know he's a heavy old feline."

"He is quite the size for a feline, but very healthy if I do say so myself." She handed the large animal over to his owner. "Dasha, my canine," she pointed at the animal behind them, "found Pepper, she was sniffing out something and it turned out to be him."

"Well, if you hadn't caught him I know he'd be far up a tree by now."
And Ar'lis wasn't around to climb up and retrieve him. Which was probably a good thing.

"Glad to be of help to you . . ." She let the sentance hang so the woman who had been reunited with her feline could fill in the rest.

"Gaiya. My name is Gaiya." She held her free hand out to the journeywoman with a grateful smile.

"Wondering meeting you Gaiya, as well as you Pepper." She scratched the feline behind his ears. "And I already introduced Dasha my canine, and I am Illiana, Journeywoman Beastcrafter - turned candidate." She took the offered hand and shook it.

"Ah, well, welcome to River Bluff to both of you," the fostermother smiled as she shifted Peppers great weight in her arms. "You're not from here... I would have remembered you."

Illiana grinned. "I'm from the North originally, and due to an interesting turn in fate I have come to River Bluff. And so far I relaly like it, granted some things are different from back home, but that is to be expected."

"From the North?" Gaiya asked, her eyes wide in surprise. "So _that's_
how you can be a journeywoman. Then you have never lived in a Weyr before?"

"Never, this is all new to me." She said as she threw her arms up in the arm to encompass the whole Weyr.

Her companion nodded her understanding. "Many people found the Weyr overwhelming when they first arrived. But, I've lived here all my life. I've never known anywhere but River Bluff."

"Overwhelming at first yes, but it is really starting to grow on me. I knew nothing but the Beastcraft Hall for many turns, and then I come to here, and it is interesting to see the may differences. If I don't Impress, I'm not sure what I'll do, if I'll stay or go."

"Well, I hope you would stay. We could always use fresh faces around here."

"The more and more I think about it, the more I think I'd like that."
Illiana said as she nodded her head absentmindely. Sure she missed her family, but it wasn't like they couldn't visit.

Gaiya smiled. "And when you Impress you can go anywhere on Pern!"

"Now tht is certainly something to look forward to, _if_ I Impress!"

"Even if you don't, there will be plenty of riders to give you a ride.
I even saw _snow_ adragonback this winter!" Of course, the Vintner Hallmaster soured that memory, but the snow was beautiful.

"Snow I've seen, the ocean on the other hand, coming here was my first time seeing that, and then I got to swim in it for the first time a few days ago." Illiana said as she remembered the swim with Jerric.

"Really? I have never been away from the sea." In fact, Gaiya missed the smell of the salt water when she traveled further inland. The air just didn't smell right there.

Illiana nodded. "I lived in Keroon territoy, so it was all grass, some rivers and streams, but mostly great fields of grass. And much cooler, this heat is pretty intense."

Gaiya shook her head in wonder. "Fields of grass? I can't imagine.
With no trees? That would be like being on the sea rather than land!"

"Well I suppose in some ways the grass does look like waves in water when the wind blows through them. It really is quite beautiful. If you ever get the chance you should go to Kerroon teritory and see for yoruself."

"Hmmm... I shall have to find a way to get there." It just might be grand adventure for her and a bronzerider to take some day.

"Well I suppose I should be off, runners to feed, herd beasts to milk."
Illiana "I'm sure I'll see you around again, and maybe if I Impress I'll take you to see the fields of Keroon someday." She offered, she might not have been some handsome bronzerider to wisk her away, but a possible new friend.
