Riveenata was sitting at a table grinding some herbs into a paste. She
looked up as she saw someone come into the infirmary out of the corner of
her eye. "May I help you find something or someone -" She stuttered slightly
as she recognized the person. "Weyrwoman Rhosyn. How are you feeling today?"
"Bloated, tired, and sore....otherwise-just great." Rhosyn's voice wasn't
exactly peppy and it was clear she wasn't in the best of moods. Still, she
seemed to be reflecting it more onto herself than others. Still, she saw the
healer and immediately began to think **why did I come here again?**. She
ended up at the Infirmary so often these days, it was hard to remember the
different reasons.
"Where is sore? I should be able to help you with the last one. There's some
balm for tense muscles that doesn't have any herbs in it that affect
pregnancy. Light massage of the neck and shoulders is permissible."
It wasn't like she had people to massage her whenever she wanted. N'vanik
had duties to attend to. K'sedel had a weyrmate and children to attend to.
Shells even R'enh had someone to attend to. **What about me!** Feeling
even grouchier at the reminder of how alone she was, she looked back at the
young healer. "Sounds very nice."
"There's a private cubicle this way, so you're not sitting in the center of
the infirmary," the healer offered, gesturing in the correct direction.
Following her, she made short work of getting to the cubicle, bulk or not.
Settling down when she saw the place to sit, she gladly got off her feet
with a sigh of relief.
Riveenata began preparing her tools. She brought out the cream, some
linens, and bowls of cool and warm water. "Is there a specific area
that I should focus on?"
"My dear I ache all over but my feet are probably the worst." Indeed she
hated to even look at them much these days. It was one of those just forget
you have them till they hurt type things.
"I can concentrate on your feet, then." Limb massages were something she
enjoyed doing. She knelt and took the Weyrwoman's feet in her hands and
started stroking. "Orlaith is lovely. Is she well?"
That was heavenly and made it hard for Rhosyn to think. Closing her
eyes and enjoying the attention, she focused on the question. "Of course. She's taking
all of this with her usual acceptance. She worries over me and my worries, but I think
sometimes she's the rock in the relationship."
"It must be wonderful to be able to rely on each other," she said,
hint of wistfulness in her tone. "The good news is, it won't be too
much longer."
"Right. Hopefully it all goes okay. I have faith in Reeva." **Not so much
in myself. So many things could happen...** Rhosyn tried to make herself
focus on the massage and the nice feelings it caused-not on the impending
problem of labor. "It's good but it's hard sometimes. Being Weyrwoman...
sometimes means I can't choose to do what I wish. It's better than having
no control though."
She added some soft-smelling cream to the foot as she thought about Rhosyn's
words. It made her think about how she was glad she hadn't Impressed to any
of the gold eggs; hard enough to be a greenrider, without the added pressures.
"I suppose our leaders lives are less their own than anyone else's. But,
you've done a good job here." Riven knew she preferred Rhosyn to several of the
other goldriders of River Bluff.
"It's not like I have anything to compare it to. After all, I wasn't here
before. Still, though, I think people are happy mostly." She tried her best, though she
couldn't please everyone. "Mainly, though, it's because I have to stay here till I'm
old and dusty. For good or else, this is where I'll be. Not that it's not a good
place to stay but you know what I mean." **All of my people are at Dolphin Cove**
"We trust you, and it would be nice to have that continuity," Riven said.
Maybe it would help the goldrider to know how many of the people she led trusted in
her.
She paused and took a look at Rhosyn's ankles. "Is the swelling bothering
you?" she asked after a moment. "We have some socks that could help."
"Socks? The only problem with that is I have a hard time reaching down there
so how would I get them off?" She was curious.
She hadn't thought about that. "Fair," she admitted after a moment. "Tell you
what, why don't I look into some options that don't involve making you do extra
work, and have a runner bring by anything I find?"
"That'd be fine." Rhosyn was agreeable to trying anything. As it was, when the
healer was done, she slowly got herself up and stood. "That was nice. Wonder
if I might be able to sneak off for a nap..." She looked left first, then right, and
decided odds were good. "Thank you Riveenata."
