"K'mai, fella!" Eioval pushed his way through the crowd in the Dining
Hall to find himself a place next to the bluerider. "Now what did I
hear about you, you rascal! I need this story from the runner's
mouth."
"Which story is this now?" K'mai asked, eyes bright with humor.
"You know what I mean, surely! Don't play coy with me. Did or didn't
you snog the Weyrwoman Second!?"
K'mai laughed. "Oh that is a good one!" He put a finger to his chin
and said thoughtfully, "I should've started that one myself. Or the
Weyrleader ... no, no one would believe that."
"Aww, c'mon! Are you telling me this isn't true?" Eioval looked quite
disappointed as he tucked his fork into a tuber. "Man, that's a
bummer. I was hoping for details." He paused for a moment and then
looked up suspiciously. "Or are you just covering up for her, eh?"
"Alas, I haven't had the pleasure." Lenala seemed to have little
interest in anyone who didn't ride bronze. "Although it might be time
I remedy that."
"You should, you really should," Eioval said with a grin,
disappointment already forgotten as he munched on his tuber and
hatched an exciting new plan. "Need a wingman?"
"You just want to be there to watch," K'mai said with a mock glare.
"Ooh, can I?" Eioval shot back with a grin and a wink. Now that would
be newsworthy.
"What if she rejects me? I'd never live down the shame. If you're not
there to watch, I can pretend it never happened." K'mai took a bite of
roast wherry.
"But at least you tried, don't you want to be remembered for your
bravery?" Eioval's grin grew more wicked by the moment.
K'mai arched an eyebrow. "And I'm sure that's how you'd tell the story."
"Of course! And who says you will fail, eh? You might need someone to
vouch for you if you want to tell the story of your sparkly gold
conquest!"
K'mai ate quietly for a moment and then tilted his head. "I wonder if
we could get her to take us both to bed?"
Eioval seemed to consider this for a moment, then shook his head. "I
think I'll pass and let you have all the glory." Besides, Reeva
probably wouldn't be all too pleased if such a story got out.
K'mai laughed. "Glory or bravery. You make it sound like I win either way."
"You are the hero of my tale," Eioval nodded solemnly. "I might even
make a painting of your quest for glory, hang them with the tapestries
in Dining Hall."
"And get one of your harper friends to write a song to go with it."
His eyes danced with amusement as he took a bite.
"Oh yes, definitely," Eioval nodded. "Would you prefer a ballad or an
upbeat party song?"
"I think such a tale deserves a very serious ballad."
"I shall keep that in mind," Eioval nodded, apparently dead-serious.
"You will keep me informed of your endeavors?"
"Of course." K'mai took a long drink and wondered if he was seriously
going to try this.
"Perfect," Eioval smiled. "What will be your first step?"
"I believe saying hello to the lady would be good way to start," he teased.
"You underestimate the benefits of surprise."
K'mai snorted. "I don't want to know what would happen if I snuck up
on a goldrider and started making out with her."
"Well the rest of us would have something to talk about for the rest
of the turn," Eioval winked before stuffing his last bite into his
mouth.
"At my expense!" K'mai laughed.
