Description: Riven and K'mai make some evening plans.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 26 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: K'dee
Riveenata had been bored for the last half-candlemark, so she was
wandering along the beach, looking for anything interesting. So when
she spotted the bluerider, she grinned. This was promising.
"Hey, K'mai!" she announced as she headed that way. "Up to anything?"
He wiggled his eyebrows. "Trouble, as usual."
She laughed. "The good kind of trouble involving cute green riders?"
"Of course. And crafters, and blueriders, and kitchen workers..." He
chuckled and patted the spot next to him on the sand. "How have you
been?"
"I think I've found the niche of work I like best, and the infirmary
is never dull. Also, I've been fire lizard hunting recently, but no
luck."
"Ah, so you want an egg of your own? I could ask around, if you'd like."
"If it's not a burden, that would be nice. I found a few as a weyrbrat
but I always traded them off. Only recently started wanting one for
myself." Since she'd stopped Standing and was nearing the age limit,
in fact.
"I'm sure someone will have a clutch soon and be willing to part with
an egg for a few marks. Or maybe they'll be generous and simply give
one to you." He'd put the word out. "So what is this niche you like so
much?"
"Massage therapy," she answered. "I've been helping K'dee with his
recovery. I enjoy working rehab with riders, I feel like I'm giving
something useful back."
"Mmm, massage." K'mai waggled his eyebrows. "But seriously, I'm happy
for you and that is indeed a wonderful way to give back to the Weyr."
"For you, a massage is always open." She smiled. "Thank you."
"While I'm not an expert myself, I'd be glad to give you a massage
anytime as well. I'm sure you know I'm very good with my hands." The
bluerider smirked.
"Let me know when you're free some evening, it would be a marvelous time."
K'mai shifted a bit closer. "How about tomorrow? I happen to have some
free time in my schedule."
She was scheduled for the dawn shift, so it sounded promising. "That I
can do," she said.
"Wonderful. How about my weyr, after dinner? I have some wine, and
maybe we could make a night of it?" It seemed like ages since he and
Riveenata had spent time together.
"Sounds like the best type of night." She appreciated the idea of
receiving a little attention, and K'mai was certainly one of the best.
"I'll do my best to make it a memorable one." He flashed her a smile.
"So what else have you been up to?"
"I've been a bit down about my Craft," she admitted after a moment. "I
don't know why. One of those slumps people get, I guess."
"That's too bad. Did anything trigger it?"
"I was one of the responders for S'vai, and we lost him. I like being
a Healer, don't get me wrong, but..." She made a frustrated noise.
"Sometimes the responsibility of holding someone's life in my hands is
too much, and I worry I picked the wrong Craft."
"Worrying that you might have made a mistake, that someone else could
have done a better job, that's normal. I worry when fighting 'Fall.
Any mistake could cost my life, and worse, Sebeth's. All you can do is
try your best." K'mai didn't like to dwell, but things got to him once
in a while.
She nodded seriously as she listened. K'mai had a good point - she'd
worked as hard as she could, and regrets happened. "At least I haven't
seen you in the infirmary in awhile," she added.
He smiled. "I do my best to keep out of it, at least as a patient."
"Stay that way, or I'll be cross."
"You know, I don't ever remember seeing you angry. What would you do
if I made you cross? Spank me?" He teased with a glint in his eye.
She laughed at that look. "I could, if you'd like."
K'mai licked his lips. "A bit of punishment and then a massage?"
"Sounds marvelous to me."
"Then I look forward to a _delightful_ evening."
