Danrina

She sighed. She'd been here for so many months now and yet nothing
seemed to be panning out. She'd met various men here or there, but
nothing had taken hold yet. Danrina was starting to actually get
_nervous_ that her plans would go awry and she'd be forced to marry
the loathsome man her father had chosen for her.

With another sigh, she found a bench in the common area and settled
down to watch the comings and goings of the other Hold residents.

Yriadha swept into the common area, trailed by several drudges as she
delegated their tasks with cool authority. She didn't smile at them,
but neither did she snap orders; she merely demanded their respect and
obedience and they gave it. Behind the drudges, her youngest daughter,
Humari, followed, her eyes downcast. With a firm flick of her fingers,
she directed the girl to sit and was obeyed, but Humari's expression
was one of morose defeat instead of the smiles that usually graced her
face. Yriadha's gaze remained on her for a moment before sweeping
over the rest of the room, but paused as she saw Danrina. A
calculating expression flickered before she strode to Danrina and
cleared her throat. "I need a moment of your time, please?"

Danrina had watched the hustle and bustle as they arrived. When the
Headwoman spoke, she looked up and replied, "Of course. What can I do
for you?"

Yriadha sat, arranging her skirts around her with a brisk hand. "You
know my daughter, Humari?" She glanced over to her child, who sat
quietly, eyes down.

"Yes, we've met," Danrina replied, looking over to the girl and then
back to the Headwoman.

Yriadha's voice lowered. "I would make you an offer, Danrina. It
appears that Humari is also in need of a husband. If perhaps you could
take her under your wing, I would be willing to speak to Lord Morin
about perhaps throwing a ball to introduce both of you to a few of the
men of the new Seahold and perhaps other holds. It would be a large
affair and would provide opportunities for both of you."

Danrina instantly perked up. She looked to the girl and back to the
headwoman. "I would be happy to take her under my wing, and I think
such a ball would be a great way for both of us to meet the many
eligible men out there." She smiled, a real bright genuine smile.
Perhaps things would work out for her after all. So far not much had
happened with her plans to meet the men of the Hold. A ball would be a
perfect opportunity.

She glanced at Humari again, and then leaning in whispered, "I think
perhaps Humari and I should work on some things before that." The girl
looked like she wanted to melt into the ground. That would not do, and
Danrina didn't want Humari to drag down her own chances at finding a
husband. So, she was already hatching a plan to see if she could
transform the girl a bit to make her more presentable to the men.

"Thank you, Danrina." Yriadha nodded to the girl, but then arched a
cool brow at her next suggestion. "Things such as what, may I ask?"

Danrina eyed the Headwoman again, "Truthfully she seems too timid. At
least in the few times I've encountered her. If we want her to catch
someone's eye we have to help her walk with confidence. Look people in
the eye. Believe she is worthy of the men who are presented to us."
Danrina shrugged. She really didn't know Humari all that well
otherwise, and wouldn't know if there were other concerns until the
two actually met and talked together.

"She is usually not." Yriadha frowned darkly. "She has been chastised,
so is sulking." The Headwoman sighed. It had been easier for her in
her own youth. Men had flocked around her... She shook off that
thought. "Take her under your wing, Danrina. You will not regret it."

"I will. I could use some friends myself, to be honest," Danrina
replied. There weren't as many young women around for her to bond with
as she'd hoped.

"Come to me if there is ever a problem or concern." She stared at
Danrina. "Any problem or concern, Danrina."

"I will," Danrina replied, appreciative of the offer. "I look forward
to getting to know Humari better as well."
