Characters: Chupsin, Chaysea
Description: Chupsin comes by to see his sister
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 5, day 9 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Keayd, Makarl, Sinla, Genna

He had come bearing gifts. These included an ointment for her feet.
Chupsin knew their last encounter hadn't been the best. He wasn't
going to make excuses for his behavior. If the shoe had been on the
other foot, though, he would have collected her so he accepted it as a
matter of course. There was also the fact that most of his life he had
been doted on by his sisters. In his other hand was dinner. Knocking
on her door once, he watched as Tourniquet /betweened/ to come out on
the other side, giving a welcome chirp.

Chaysea was enjoying the quiet of her room with her feet propped up on
the low table in front of her hearth. She probably would not have
answered the knock on her door had Tourniquet not shown up inside her
room, "Come in Chupsin!" She called as she took her feet down from the
table and straightened on the lounge.

He came inside and set the basket down on the table. Coming up to her,
he pulled the ointment from his pocket and set it there too. "So, I saw Genna
up at the Weyr. She seems happy."

"You're a doll." Chaysea said as she picked up the ointment and
immediately applied it to her bare feet. Being a Headwoman meant a lot
of time standing on your feet or walking to and fro around the Hall.
At the mention of their niece, Chaysea looked up with a smile, "Did
she? I thought she would like it."

"Yeah but I think she's got some screwed up notion about falling in love
with a dragonrider who will do whatever she wants. I tried to warn her but
she doesn't understand." Frowning, which caused very small lines around
his eyes, he sat down opposite her and started unpacking the food. "Zelanka
sends her best."

Chaysea raised her eyebrow at the mention of Genna's plans, "That's
certainly a tall order to fill. I have the inkling that she might find
the roles reversed if she is not careful." She nodded at the mention
of Zelanka as she wiped her hands off and then opened up the basket of
food that Chupsin had brought.

"Aye but those riders never stick with someone. They'll use her, ruin her, and
then move on to the next young candidate. The only real hope she has of success
is Impression." That was also the only way that she could ever come back to
the Hold to even visit. He knew that. "What if she never does though?"

Scratching his neck, he thought to mention something else. "I never
told you but it was awful strange how she left. For months, Sinla
wasn't going to allow her to go. Then all of a sudden she changed her
mind and Genna wanted to go right then. Something was off, Chay." He
wondered if maybe a female mind could figure it out.

Chaysea's brow furrowed as she pondered that tidbit of information,
"Almost as if Sinla was suddenly glad to send her to the Weyr?" She
didn't know the answer to why their sister would suddenly change her
mind about Genna leaving. Chaysea had never been as close to Sinla as
she was to Chupsin.

"Exactly. And I even rattled off several reasons why she shouldn't and
it seemed as if neither of them were listening to me." It was still
troubling him but he wouldn't come right out and ask Sinla. Not unless
he had proof of something. "She had such plans for her-to marry her
well and then to have grandchildren. Then there she was sending her
away to the Weyr of all places. I thought Lady Benani was going get
Genna a good place to foster."

"That was my understanding as well." Chaysea pulled a piece of bread
from the basket.

"Maybe I will ask Sinla about it the next time I see her." She popped
a chunk of the bread into her mouth and chewed it slightly, "What
about you? You okay? You had a lot to drink the other night."

He shrugged off her concern easily. "I'm fine. I admit...my quarters
are probably not as clean as they used to be. It's also hard to find
anyone willing to bear your children when the last woman who did died
before she even went into labor." He sighed. Chupsin looked
heavenward. "And you? You don't seem to be going back into the
marriage market even though there are several eligible men."

Chaysea cocked an eyebrow at that, a small smirk playing across her
lips, "Several eligible men, you say? Where are these eligible men? I
certainly haven't seen any." Not that Chaysea needed a husband at this
point. Her elderly husband had left her a nice, tidy sum after
passing, and she made decent wages from being the Headwoman as well.
This time, Chaysea didn't have to follow anyone's rules about
marriage. _If_ she ever married again it would be on her own terms and
on her own time.

"Well there are some at the Hold and some here. I mean hey if you wanted
someone who would be nice to you, my friend Keayd would." Not that he was
really being serious about Keayd for her, but it was the truth. The man would
never be unkind.

"Keayd is very nice," Chaysea agreed, "but he's nearly a decade
younger than me." The Headwoman was looking for someone closer to her
age. Her first husband had been nearly forty-Turns her senior. Chaysea
wanted someone that understood where she was in life and had similar
goals.

"So? Women live longer than men so it'll work out that way. It's not like he's a
teenturner or anything so it doesn't carry the same weight." And anyway, the
man was a vintner who had goals. That was good.

Chaysea chuckled and shook her head, "No, Chupsin, this time I would
like a marriage that involves some _chemistry_. I'm set for money, I
don't need a man to support me, so unless I just find someone that is
utterly eye-catching, I doubt you will see this sister married again."

"Well he doesn't have much money so that wasn't part of that deal."
He smiled, though. "Eye catching huh? Shallow are we?" Putting some
food into his mouth, he shook his head.

"I was married to a man in his seventies, Chup, I think I have earned
the right to be a wee bit shallow." Chaysea pointed out, a smirk
working at the corners of her mouth.

Shrugging, he considered his own failed marriage. Neither of them had done
very well in that area of life. Sinla had at least but lately...Makarl
had been forgetful. "There is a pretty handsome fellow farmer that I
stitched up the other day."

Mmmm, farmers. They mostly always had a nice, trim physique from
working outside. Work roughened hands. Yes, a farmer could be nice,
"Then perhaps you should have to point me in this farmer's direction
sometime."

"Too bad he's already married. I'll pay more close attention, though."
Happy with companionable silence, he continued to eat.
