T'nom

He'd been waiting for a good opportunity to try and talk to her. So
far he hadn't found one. That was until he and Taldeth had been
circling the bowl from their last patrol and he'd seen her by the
waters. The green hide and the girl beside it had been unmistakable.

Circling down, he quickly finished his duties. He hoped she would
still be there. It hadn't taken him long, but it had been a delay of a
few minutes for sure.

Rounding the bend, T'nom almost breathed a sigh of relief. She was still there.

Tentative, yet resolved, he walked up to her and Liddth.

"Hi Pierka," he hoped her reaction wouldn't be what he feared the most.

She was a little wary but tried to hide it. "Hello T'nom," she didn't
quite smile but she didn't frown either and went back to oiling
LIddith.

Well her initial reaction was better than he'd expected. "Do you mind
if I join you for a bit? I think maybe we need to talk."

She tried not to let her wounds show in her her eyes and shrugged.
"Sure. Wanna help?" She tilted her head at the oil and another paddle
ready for use.

He breathed a sigh of relief. Quickly shedding the rest of his riding
gear and dropping it into a pile, he moved over and picked up the oil
and paddle. "I've been hoping to get a chance to talk with you. I'm
glad you didn't push me away. I _was_ afraid you might." He dipped the
paddle into the oil. "Over here okay?" He asked indicating Liddith's
hind leg where it appeared she hadn't been oiled yet.

Truthfully, a few days ago she probably would have but she was in a
happy place right now and her friendship with Z'ku had gone a long way
in helping her get past stewing over the situation. Even her
conversation with Sh'del had made her feel like she wasn't the only
one who thought the whole thing between T'nom and Meledei was a little
crazy.

"Yeah that's fine," she nodded. "What do you want to talk about?"

He started working some of the oil onto Liddith's hind leg.

"Everything," he replied a bit quietly, looking over at her. "Mostly I
want to tell you I'm sorry. I'm sorry for not being here the way I
should be. I'm sorry for the way all this," he gestured between them,
"ended. I never wanted to lose you as a friend, Pierka, and I'm pretty
sure I have."

"Sometimes things are out of our control," She knew _that_ one for a
fact. "We don't always get to have things the way we want them." But
then her baser half got its word in. "Or maybe some of us do."

He held back from saying anything about that. He knew she was upset by
all that had happened, and he couldn't blame her. "I _do_ want to be
here for you and the babe, Pierka. I would do anything for both of
you, well, anything aside from that _one_ thing that got us here in
the first place," he gave her a wry, almost sad smile. He would miss
those moments with her. "But I can be here for you in _every_ other
way you may need me. I promise you that." He waited to see whether his
words would make matters better or worse between them.

"Alright," she said softly. He couldn't help the way he felt any more
than she could and if it meant she was opening herself up for more
hurt down the road then she would. Her baby deserved it. For her own
sake she could have cut him off without a qualm but her babe deserved
to know its father. "We can try and see how it goes."

He breathed a huge sigh of relief. "That's _all_ I can ask for,
Pierka. You've know idea how happy you've just made me today. Now why
don't we finish Liddith's bath and then maybe I can treat you to a
meal in the dining hall and you can tell me what all I've missed so
far?" It was an invitation and a question at the same time.

She looked at him for a moment and then just shook her head with a wry
smile. "I'm not doing it for _you_ T'nom," she said. "It's for the
baby. But sure, we can have a meal and talk." She still felt awkward
over the entire thing and even though she wasn't in love or sleeping
with him, she felt more comfortable with Z'ku.

He smiled. The weight he'd felt seemed to lift from his shoulders. He
wanted to be part of the baby's life, and Pierka's, in whatever way
she would have him. "I understand and am just glad to be part of the
babe's life."
