D'arvn walked down the inside stairs from the weyr he shared with U'fouinn. It had been a sevenday since he'd finally gone home and he'd had felt so much better _not_ being confined to the infirmary. But now it was time for a checkup. He entered the infirmary and walked up to the counter. "I think I have an appointment for today?"
Riveenata looked up at the newcomer and smiled widely when she recognized the man. She had harbored a bit of a crush when he was in his late teens and she was in her early ones, attracted by his light hair, though as a shy young weyrbrat she had never said a thing to him. She busied herself looking at the list, trying to remember why he was in - she knew it was Threadscore, as it was for so many riders.
"You are indeed on the list for today," she confirmed. "This is just a follow-up, right?"
"Yes," he smiled. "And to see if I can take this off." He wiggled the fingers of his splinted arm. He hadn't had to wear the sling for the whole Sevenday and he hoped he'd be able to have the splint off soon.
"Follow me and let's take a look," she said, picking up his records and heading over to an unoccupied cot. "How's your head doing, by the way? And Falzeth?"
She checked his records as she waited for the answer. About a month? "We should be able to get that off today. After that you might need some physical therapy exercises for a bit."
"Alright," he nodded and followed her around the counter and into one of the exam rooms. "None of those blinding headaches I'd been having and Falzeth is doing much better," he said. "Thanks for asking. Soon as we're both fit, we'll be joining the queens' wing to get back in shape."
"Glad to hear you're improving." She took his arm to look at it. "Please tell me if anything I do hurts. Has it been hurting when you move or jostling? Any swelling, numbness, tingling?"
"Oh it's still tender if it gets bumped." He smiled but watched warily as her hand began to move across the injury. "No swelling or tingling at all."
"That's good news, means you should have a full recovery. I think we should be able to take this off today," she said with a reassuring smile. "Have you been very bored?"
"Good," he said to her first comment and settled on the table to take the sling over his head. He'd always liked Riveenata and he quirked a smiled at her question. "I think that's been the worst part." He leaned forward a little as though confiding a secret. "I've actually been reading." That was a big change for a young man who'd avoided it for most of his life.
"Never fear, I'll save you from that fate. You should be able to do far more interesting things now. And not have to worry about keeping it dry when you bathe, that's the worst part. I once messed up my foot," she admitted.
"It really is," he nodded in agreement. "I think I remember that," he said with a tilted smile. "Weren't we hunting tunnel snakes at the time? Faranth what a long time ago."
"Exactly!" She grinned, pleased he remembered. "I was trying to trap one under the crate and instead dropped it on my food. Smart weyrbrat I was."
She hummed slightly as she picked up a knife. "Just let me cut this loose?" It didn't take long to cut the parts securing it and take the splint from his arm. "There we go!"
"Oh," he said as he turned it carefully and then feeling it with his other hand. "Much better, thank you," he smiled.
"I'm glad to be of service," she replied. "Is there anything else I can do for you, any follow-up questions?"
"No," he smiled still stretching and turning the arm. "I'll come back if there is a need. Now for a bath," he smiled knowing U'fouinn would appreciate him having the stinky cast out of his bed.
