Description: The Weyrwoman asks the Weyrlingmaster about his opinion.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 1 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Eirlira, Bahji, Solieira, Reeva
Plopped in her office in the brief time between wing duties, Rhosyn
was waiting for her Weyrlingmaster to arrive. This was one of those
times where Weyr concerns coupled with candidate concerns so that
they had to work together. She hoped the meeting would be fairly
straightforward.
H'vack arrived and seeing her door open, he poked his head in. "Good
day, Rhosyn. You sent for me." He inclined his head in greeting as he
moved into her office. He wasn't sure of the nature of today's meeting,
but meetings with Rhosyn were always interesting. He knew there must
be more purpose to this meeting than just a regular checking
in on the candidates and weyrlings.
"Aye have a seat, please H'vack." As usual, she assumed he would take
whatever he wanted from the plate of food on her desk. It was ever present
these days as her pregnancy grew. "I'd like to talk about a particular candidate
today-Eirlira."
He took the offered chair and a few treats from the tray to nibble.
"Ah, yes, Eirlira. She's not the easiest to get along with," he
stated, having seen and heard much of her antics with the other
candidates. She still often tried to be coy around him and his staff,
but they had seen through her facade and had been watching her for
some time now.
"From looking at your reports, I see that she has been skipping lessons from time
to time. She has also been known to be discourteous to her fellow candidates.
Recently, I've had a report that she was rude to fellow weyrfolk and a crafter.
Now, I've let her know that if I receive any further reports, she will no longer be
a candidate and could even be sent home." Looking down at her hands then back
up at the other rider, she nodded to herself. "To mollify the Master Crafter, I've
agreed to make Eirlira perform extra duties in the Infirmary."
**I hope she empties enough bedpans to learn** Rhosyn thought to herself.
"My question to you is-do you think she's worth allowing to Stand? Do we want
someone like this bonded to a dragonet? What do you see and think?" She would
ask her next question after she heard his opinion.
"To be honest," H'vack began, "I've had my staff watching her. She
seems less interested in Impressing than the other candidates. I've
seen attitudes of all sorts in my Turns with candidates and weyrlings,
but honestly, it's almost as though she doesn't care." He paused for a
moment and let out what seemed like a sigh. "I've seen some rather
nasty people be chosen by the dragons, so I cannot always speak
for why they make those choices. I do think she bears further watching
and if her attitude and studies do not improve then I would not put her
on the Sands. At least not this time. Perhaps it would teach her a
lesson in how she _should_ be acting."
"Do you think, based on what you have seen, that she could be one of those
nasty people?" Then again, the girl could be good at hiding things from the
Weyrlingmaster if she was as cunning as she seemed to be. "Here's the situation.
One of my weyrfolk, who was pregnant, was found injured due to being tripped.
This came not long after she had a very bad run-in with Eirlira in the
Infirmary. Now, no one saw anything or anything like that but there doesn't seem
to be anyone else that even might have done the tripping." She looked down at
her hands, thinking.
"Hmm," H'vack contemplated, "I mean, I've heard that she's not as
friendly to the other candidates and all, but none of my staff has
witnessed her physically hurting another. I wouldn't want to be
the one to point fingers on that unless I had seen more to make me
believe she would _actually_ hurt another. Right now, I just feel that she's
a bit self-centered and thinks a bit too highly of her own ideals.
She still has to come to terms with the hierarchy in the Weyr and that
she can't always be in control." H'vack wasn't sure what else to say.
"I can keep a closer eye on her. See if anything would make me think
differently."
"Fair enough. Where she's concerned-if you do see anything odd, report
it to me." That left another conversation with Solieira and then with the
candidates. "I'd like to speak to all the current candidates besides her.
If you can set up appointments with them for me?"
"That will not be a problem at all. If you give me the times you would
like to have them come, I will make sure one of them is here at each
time slot." H'vack replied.
"Mmmm...let's say in the next three days or so in the afternoon
when I'm not otherwise scheduled." Of course it went without saying if there
was a Threadfall to fly she'd be busy.
"Okay, I will begin setting those up immediately," H'vack noted. "If
there's nothing else?" He prepared to stand, feeling as though their
meeting had come to an end.
