A Rude Awakening

Writers: Kenya, Sunrose
Date Posted: 25th January 2006

Characters: Jer'ic, Illiana
Description: Jerric accidentally sleeps in and Illiana wakes him up
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 17 of Turn 3

Illiana had been up early, she had a hard time sleeping in the new bed last night and couldn't help but think about how worried her family would be. She had watched as everyone but Jerric left the Barracks. So, shrugging her shoulders she went into the boys section of the Barracks and spotted the sleeping lump in his bed. She snapped her fingers and Dasha was at her side wagging her tail happily.

Placing one finger to her lips to indicate quiet to the canine and then giving the signal for the canine to creep in the direction of Jerric's sleeping and unexpecting form the pair came to the side of his bed. Illiana then gave Dasha the signal to tackle. The red and white canine leapt up onto the bed and tackled Jerric's form which was hiding under a mass of blankets.

Jerric rolled over in his bed. His head hurt and he had had a bit too much to drink last night. For a moment, he was positive that there absolutely nothing that could get him out of bed this morning. Just when he thought his sheets couldn't have been any warmer or more comfortable, something very large and heavy tackled him on his bed. He was so confused the he fell out of the bed with the attacker on top of him. He thrashed beneath the blankets until finally he surfaced only to receive a big sloppy kiss from Dasha.
"Dasha!" he gasped.

The canine gave a happy little yip and wagged her whole body. "Good morning sleepy head, you'd better hurry up and get out of bed or we won't get any breakfast and we'll be late for classes." She said with a silly grin on pretty little face.

Jerric was terrified of the puppy. Hadn't he just told her the other day that he didn't like animals?! Pushing Dasha away, he stumbled to get up, pulling the blankets around him as it had been very hot last night so he had decided not to wear any clothes. "Illiana? What are you doing?!" Jerric asked irritated and then put a hand to his head. The hangover was attacking with a vengeance.

The girl looked at Jerric confused. "Well I thought I was helping you, making sure that you were up in time." She said as she called Dasha to her side.

Terribly embarrassed, Jerric sat on his bed. "Sorry about that," he mumbled and began to search around for some clothes. Pulling out some brown pants and a simple plain shirt, Jerric pulled on the shirt and then looked at Illiana before finishing getting dressed. "Er, you mind?" he asked, referring to the curtain that was usually there to separate the two genders.

Blushing Illiana quickly left the male side of the barracks with Dasha in tow. "Sorry about that." She admitted as she stood out in the hallway - as red as a red fruit.

Jerric quickly finished dressing, realizing that he really was one of the last ones to wake up. Making sure that he was ready, he stepped out in the hallway to meet Illiana. "Hey...thanks for waking me up," he said quietly.
Sober, he wasn't half as outgoing or talkative. They both exited the Barracks, knowing that they would be lucky if they would have any time to eat breakfast before lessons began.

"Sorry about using Dasha to get you up - figured that it would be funny, used to do it to my brothers all the time." She explained as she tucked her hands into the pockets of her trousers.

"Yeah," was all that Jerric could think of to say. He supposed now he would have to eat breakfast with her all though he might have preferred to be by himself. He wasn't feeling very well and would have preferred to not risk getting sick in front of her but he guessed he didn't have much of a choice this morning. He yawned as they walked, covering his mouth with his hand so not to be rude.

They had a quarter of a candlemark to get some food into their systems, and luckily the most of the lineup was gone as people had already started their day. Illiana grabbed a plate and loaded it with the little choice she had.
She then found a seat close to the door in case they had to get out of there and run to lessons.

Jerric didn't grab much. He never ate very much and that could have been why he was so skinny. Having no other choice, Jerric took a seat on the bench next to Iliana and began eating quietly. She was just too loud for him.
Hopefully he really wouldn't have to talk to her too much more today. She made him nervous whenever he was close to her.

"I wonder what we will be doing today in classes? I heard someone mention something about learning the duties of Dragonriders!" She said excitedly, nothing could keep her down for long. If someone was to upset her she'd just keep smiling and keep going throughout the day.

Jerric wanted to roll his eyes. He didn't care about the duties of dragonriders anymore than he cared about what Iliana had planned for the evening. "That sounds interesting," he lied however. He didn't really want to hurt her feelings all though it appeared it would by sheer luck if he could do anything to break that smile of hers.

"Did you ever have any Dragonriders in your family?" She asked after a brief pause.

Jerric had to think about that for only a moment. "No... No, I don't think so and my mother would be heart broken if I was the first," Jerric said. He believed that Iliana had mentioned she had had a few in her family but not in quite some time.

"Well that's too bad, I'm sure you would make a wonderful Dragonrider." She finished her meal quickly and stood up.

Jerric had already finished his own so he stood up as well. He wanted to ask her why she kept going on about dragonriders but didn't really want to hear her rant. He was sure by now she would make a good dragonrider too. She was always into other people's business. He laughed at this to himself as the two exited the Dining Caverns.

Illiana cocked an eyebrow at Jerric but didn't ask him about his sudden laugh and just muttered on about - well nothing really, she had a habit of doing that.

The two went to lessons and as quickly but as politely as he could, Jerric got away from that crazy girl and blended into the crowd of Candidates. For now at least, he would be safe.
