Devyn sighed contentedly while blowing a strand of hair out of her
face and relaxing back onto the pillows. The mating flight had been
great. There was certainly no disappointment to be had with D'ale and
Torerath as the winners of Ellytlh's flight. D'ale was also her
Wingsecond, so Devyn was fairly familiar with the man, at least on a
business level. The only thing that gnawed at the back of her mind was
J'darin and Hasaarth's noticeable absence.
D'ale kissed her shoulder, then rolled onto his back to savor Tonuth's
satisfaction where he lay with his prize. "Now that was a good
flight," he smiled. "Shes' a wily one," he added chuckling.
"Yes, when she is not lounging around doing nothing she can actually
be pretty feisty." Devyn would not have gotten away with the comment
had Ellyth not been sound asleep, snoozing gently beneath the wing of
D'ale's brown. The greenrider pulled the sheet up over her hip, one
hand pillowed beneath her face.
"Well they can all be lazy if we aren't vigilant," He swung his legs
off the bed and headed toward the refreshments. "Are you thirsty?"
Devyn raised up in the bed on one elbow, "Parched, actually." She
said, licking her lips.
"Alright," he said and poured a couple of glasses of juice and brought
one back to her. Raised in the Weyr, D'ale felt no need to cover
anything. Flights happened and no matter what the riders would have
chosen for themselves, they were thrown together for the sake of their
lifemates and he was perfectly fine with however it ended. "looks like
there are some fruit slices and meatrolls here too if you'd like," He
went back for the plate.
"Sounds perfect." She reached for her discarded tunic and pulled it
over her head, but she remained reclined in the bed, waiting for the
man's return.
He brought the whole plate to the bed then found his trousers and
pulled them on. Sitting on the bed he sipped his juice and picked up a
small piece of fruit. As a wingsecond he didn't usually delve into his
rider's lives but he knew Devyn had been the instrument to pull
J'darin back from the brink. Once a Weyrleader the bronzerider had
been bent on self destruction before this greenrider had changed his
course.
"How are you doing," he asked.
"I am okay. Better now that Ellyth finally rose. There's nothing like
walking around cranky and not being able to do anything about it."
Devyn chuckled as she took a healthy drink of the juice that he had
brought.
D'ale chuckled. He'd dealt with that same issue for Turns with Kenza.
But his current weyrmate wasn't a rider. She was about as far from the
Weyr in temperament as one could get. "Tell me about it. I've lived
with enough greenriders in my time."
Devyn smiled a bit at that, "Yes, I do feel sorry for the other
dragonriders some times. With so many greens in one place there is
always a handful of hateful, proddy women roaming around." She
chuckled a bit, "What about your current weyrmate? Is she a
greenrider?" Devyn didn't really know much about her Wingsecond's
personal life.
"Oh no," he said with a possessive smile. "She is... a Lady."
Devyn smiled, "A Lady?"
"Aye," he bit a lip. "I was a bad man. I fell in love with a Lady of the Blood."
The greenrider chuckled, "A brownrider and a Lady. It is a very
romantic story though, D'ale, yes?"
"Right out of a Harper's tale," he bit into a redfruit. "And includes
the birth of a son to vindicate the Lady against the accusations of
her former Lord husband who seemed to think it was her fault they had
no children."
Devyn smiled as she finished off her mug of klah, "Oh yes, that
definitely deserves to be written down by a harper. It is quite the
tale. I am glad things worked out for you and your lady. Does she take
flights well?"
"Guess I'm going to find out," he shrugged as he popped the last of
the fruit in his mouth. "So I'd best be going. Thank you for a lovely
flight," he said as he slid back to his feet and found his tunic.
"And you as well, D'ale." She swung her legs from the bed and began
dressing as well. Hoping that she would be able to find J'darin in his
weyr when she got back. They had some talking to do.
