Wirnan

Wirnan

The big day had arrived. Now that he was finally feeling like his old
self again and the new quarters were finally all finished, Wirnan and
Kaya were moving. He'd taken the day off as Steward to finish the
packing and oversee the move. It wasn't terribly far, which was good,
but still there were many things that needed transport.

"Be careful with that!" He called out as some helping hands picked up
a vase that had been his mother's. "Carry it with both hands to the
new rooms."

"Do you want me to take it?" Kaya offered as she looked up from the
box she had been packing. They honestly didn't have_that_ much but

it seemed like a lot more than Kaya thought when she had to pack it
all. Of course, most of it was his. She'd brought very little of her
own.

He thought about that and looked between Kaya and the helping hands.
"I think it would be better if it wasn't placed in a box." Then
turning back to the workers he said. "Guard it with your life and do
not let one tiny shard break away." They nodded with understanding and
were soon on their way.

Kaya hadn't planned on putting it in a box but rather wrap it
carefully in cloth and carry it herself. She decided to let it go,
however and watched the helpers move on their way. She really hoped
nothing happened to that keepsake.

Wirnan looked around the room and sighed. He'd lived in this quarters
since the moment he'd take the job as Steward here. While it would be
nice to have roomier quarters for them both, it was still hard to
contemplate moving on, even if it_was_ only a short distance away.

"The room seems so empty now," he remarked.

"Yes. It does." And bigger too. Wirnan hadn't had all that much,
but the quarters were rather small. They were perfect for a bachelor.
It wasn't too bad for just two people, but it would be nice to have
more room. "I wonder who will have this next."

He hadn't really thought about that much, but in a busy hold like
this, he knew rooms of this nature with their own bathing chamber
would be in high commodity. They wouldn't go to just anyone, but still
they would go quickly.

"I'm sure we'll find out down the line," he replied, placing the last
item from his desk into the box.

"I think that just about does it," he remarked. "Time to go and see
the new quarters and start unpacking everything we've just packed!" It
seemed like a daunting task now that he thought about it. All this
work just to unpack it all again a short distance away.

"Seems rather counter productive, doesn't it?" Kaya offered a small
smile. Still, she knew he was probably happy about the move, for more
than one reason.

"Aye it does." More help arrived just then. They started shuffling
boxes and things into place.

"Well, shall we take the ones we deemed fragile and be off then?" He
asked, looking towards her as he moved to pick up a box he'd intended
to carry. He knew it would take the the better part of the day to get
some of their basic things settled into the new quarters. "We can
always come back and check here once most of the things have been
moved. Benani's given us a few days to clear out before they'll clean
these rooms up for the next person."

Kaya nodded and squatted down to pick up a box as well. "Lead on."
It would be different, being in bigger quarters. Maybe things would
be better. It would give them more space...maybe...well, maybe a lot
of things. Kaya waited for Wirnan to start and then paced after him.

He led the way. A few turns here, one there, and then they stood
before the doorway. It was open and people were hustling in and out
with their things.

"Well, here we are," he declared, entering a head of her. He moved to
sit the box down on the floor as he took in the space. There was a
larger living area. That was nice. It had a few doors leading off of
it. He was eager to explore them and see what was behind.

"No, that goes over there." Some of the drudge girls had evidently
been given the task to help unpack. Kaya handed Wirnan her box
without realy thinking and moved to direct the girls. "He likes these
together." She stated when she pointed to the arm chair and table that
they had brought from their old rooms. They were of a dark leather and
would go well with the new decorations. She paused and then motioned
to the sofa and table. "Over here you think?" She asked, turning
back to Wirnan.

He looked over at what she indicated. "Yes, that would fine," Wirnan
nodded. He moved to the one door on the right. Opening it, he saw a
rather spacious bedroom. **Very nice,** he thought. This room seemed
to have direct access to the bathing pools behind as well if he was
right. He left that room and opened the other door on that side. It
was a smaller room. **Would be good for an extra bedroom,** he
thought, shutting the door. **If we ever needed it, or an art room for
Kaya perhaps.**

He moved to the other side of the living room and opened the door
there. This was another good sized bedroom. He entered and looked
around. There was a second door leading out of this room to another.
He opened it and looked around. **This could make a nice office,** he
thought. Turning back he looked at the bedroom and noted this one had
another door.

Wirnan walked to it and opened it. He found himself looking at the
main hallway. **Extra entrance,** he thought. **Interesting. That
would be good for me if someone needed to reach me in an emergency
without waking up the rest of the household.

Kaya poked her head in and watched Wirnan as he moved around. She
moved inside, her arms filled with bedding for the bed which was a
nice, dark wood just like she had requested. She placed the bedding
on the matress, then stepped back out. She noted the small
kitchenette, nice to have if she decided she wanted to make a meal in
rather than go to the dining hall. She'd have to get some cookwhere.
"That goes in the second bedroom." She motioned to the person who had
the bedding for that one. "Just put it on the bed." Her things were
put into the main bedroom with the office. She might as well leave
it. She could move it later if that's what he wanted.

Kaya moved over to the fireplace and ran her hand along the mantle.
Had it been replaced? It matched the wood of the rest of the
furniture, so maybe?'

It took longer than he'd expected, but finally all the boxes and
furniture pieces and things were moved in. Finally, they were alone in
their new quarters. There were still boxes everywhere, but it was nice
not to have the hustle and bustle of other people milling about.

He sank down onto one of the chairs. He was tired. This was more work
than he'd done in quite some time. The lingering effects of his
earlier illness still wore him out from time to time.

"Sit down for a bit," he told Kaya, who seemed eager to unpack
everything. "Let's talk for a moment before we finish."

"Let me put on the kettle." Kaya responded softly. She had a feeling
sh knew what the discussion would be about. They already had a kettle
and she'd planned ahead and brought water, so she poured it in and set
it on the stove. Then she moved over to lower herself into a seat
diagonal to her husband.

He waited for her to sit. Then he started. "The best part of these
quarters are the two rooms. No more cot sleeping for either of us." He
knew it still wouldn't be ideal, but at least this should help
matters. "I was thinking that the room with the outside door would
work best for me. That way if someone needs me for Hold matters, it
wouldn't disturb you. I can use the little adjacent room for a small
office. You could have the other room then." He figured it was a good
compromise. He was trying to be friendly about it all, just like
Karhal had suggested.

Kaya had suspected as much. "Anything you want." She stated softly.
The water in the kettle made a hushing sound as it began to get warm.
"I'll move my things into the other room." It wouldn't be hard, just
that trunk. Everything that was strictly hers fit in there.

"I can help you move your trunk. It's rather heavy. Would you like to
move it now or wait until later?" Wirnan asked, trying to be friendly
and accommodating to her without being threatening or demanding.

"You've been sick. I don't want you getting worked up." Kaya shook
her head. "I'll take care of it." The kettle wailed its shrill cry
and Kaya stood to pour the water into two cups with tea leaves.

"I'm pretty much better now. Let me at least _help_ you. I don't want
you to end up needing to see Chupsin because you hurt yourself moving
the trunk," Wirnan stood and walked over to where she was. "We can do
it now, that way you can unpack your things."

"I...suppose. The water tea needs to steep." He just couldn't wait
to get her things out of his room. Could Kaya blame him? No. She
had a long way to go, but she'd made this mess. She was going to have
to clean it up and no one ever said it was going to be quick or easy.
