Wirnan

Wirnan

"How are you feeling?" Kaya closed the door behind her. She had
hoped that Wirnan would be in bed but she found him on the couch
instead. She supposed it was better than getting up and trying to
work while he was still sick. She smoothed the fabric that hung over
her arm and then crossed over to lay a gentle hand upon his shoulder.

He was starting to feel stir-crazy. He'd been stuck here for days,
dealing with this cough. It was still persist ant and even draining at
times, but with Chupsin's compresses and such, the tightness in his
chest had loosened. He wanted to return to work, but he'd been told
not yet. He knew it would be a mistake. Even though he felt better
right now, he'd come to realize that this illness had a way of
tricking his mind. He'd feel better, get up to do something, and then
feel tremendously worse. Still, he was getting antsy with all this
sitting around.

"I'm alright," he grumbled. "Tired of being stuck here."

"I'm sorry." Kaya let her hand slide off of his shoulder, then came
around to sit beside him. "I saw Lady Benani. She's...actually
redoing the entire wing, and our quarters will be part of it. She
wanted me to pick out colours...I thought I'd show you what I picked
out and see if you like it."

"Alright," he replied, still a bit grumpy. He wasn't much for
decorating, but at least it would give him something to occupy his
time.

"Well, I thought this emerald and sapphire material was pretty. This
has gold in it, but I really think it would be very pretty with
silver, so she's going to look into getting that." Kaya laid out the
fabric on the small table.

"I like those two colors a lot," Wirnan replied, reaching up to run
his hands over the fabric. "They are strong, rich colors. I like
that." He wasn't much for light, overly feminine colors, so he was
glad Kaya had chosen something darker and richer.

"It's pretty with the gold but...I really think the silver will help
the colours stand out more." She then pulled out a rich amethyst that
had a silvery gray inlay which wound about in an abstract, not quite
floral pattern. "I thought this one...for the other bedroom." Then
she pulled out the silky gray. "And this in both, which will give
them a running theme. These coupled with darker woods I think would
be lovely. What do you think?"

He honestly didn't really see the connections between them all. They
all looked fine to him. He could tell that it mattered to her though,
so he did his best to examine the fabrics. "I think you made lovely
choices, Kaya," Wirnan finally remarked, hoping that would satisfy
her.

"I'll let her know that you approve." Kaya managed a small smile and
carefully stacked the fabrics. "We'll be able to request some new
furniture too. Is there furniture you want to keep?"

"Yes," he replied. "This chair for one. It's my favorite. And my desk
too. I had that commissioned when I first got here." He looked around
the room and pointed to two tables. "Those too, they were from Dwidara
and her family when I arrived."

The desk would be a little lighter than the new furniture, but not to
the point where it wouldn't match. The tables were darker and of that
beautiful reddish wood that Kaya loved so much. "Of course. Anything
else?"

He shrugged. "Let me think about it. We're not moving quite yet. Is
there anything you'd like to bring? Some of the furniture was here
when I arrived. Most of it in fact. I just commissioned a few pieces
here and there over the Turns."

"I...no, I'm fine. I think Benani wants to provide new furniture
anyway." Kaya didn't have much and she didn't really want to add more
stuff to take with them than there already was.

"That's fine with me," Wirnan replied. "Those are the only pieces I
can think of that I'd care to keep."

"Okay. I'll let her know." Kaya picked up the fabric and then looked
down at Wirnan. "I...picked up a story for you earlier. Thought you
might like to have something to read."

"Thank you," Wirnan replied, "It would be nice to have something to do
while I'm recovering from this sharding cold." He hated being laid up
like this. He wanted to go back to work. He was sure there were tons
of matters that needed his attention.

"I think it's more than a cold." Colds didn't usually knock one down
for quite _that_ long. "But I'm glad it's not gotten worse." She
disappeared into the room where she'd been sleeping on the floor to
stay near in case he needed something. When she returned, the samples
were gone and she had a bound book in her hands. "I hope you like
it."

"Thank you again. I'll start it now," he smiled at her and then added
in a bit of a begrudging tone, "since I don't really have anything
better to do."

Kaya returned the smile with a small one of her own, then turned to
work on making some tea. It would do him good - and, so she hoped,
would the story.
