T'nom

T'nom

"She's in love with you, you know." Meledei stated softly as she sat
down on the couch next to T'nom. The day was done, drills had been
finished and the talk with Pierka had been on Meledei's mind the
entire rest of the day. Even as she had worked on records, the girl
and the situation at hand had popped up in her thoughts. "Pierka is."

"What?" He started when she came in and started talking, then when she
finished he let out a quiet sigh and added, "Oh." He waited a moment
and then finally spoke again, "She's really a sweet girl," T'nom
replied, "and had you and I not gotten together, I may have seen_her_
in the same way I see you now." He liked Pierka. He always had. There
had been potential between them, but his heart was in the hands of the
goldrider who sat beside him now.

Meledei traced her finger over the back of his hand. "I feel bad for
her. I mean, I had no idea so I don't feel guilty cause I wasn't
trying to steal you from her or anything, but I feel bad that she's so
upset." She turned her eyes from where their hands intertwined up to
him. "You're sure you don't have feelings for her?"

He frowned a moment and held his hand still while Meledei traced her
fingers over it. "I can't lie to you, Dei. I_do_ have feelings for

Pierka, but they aren't as strong as the ones I have for you. Things
between her and I were just beginning. It_might_ have gone further,

but then things changed when Taldeth and I won Elleth's flight. I care
about her, though. I always have."

Meledei could understand that. Things might have been different with
Z'ku. Maybe even...but she wasn't going to think about that right
now. "I don't expect you not to. I just...don't want you to regret
choosing me."

He turned and looked directly at her, taking her hand in his. "I don't
regret choosing you. I never would. I_would_ regret not being there

for Pierka when our son is born, however, or losing her friendship
completely, but I don't regret you, or us at all."

Meledei nodded. She hoped it stayed that way, but she did have to
admit she was a little worried. It was a lot to ask, monogamy. At
least, it was a lot in a Weyr, but it was just how she was. "Good. I
just...well, I just wish I could help her, but I seem to have just
made things worse."

He frowned when he looked at her, "_You've_ made things worse? What do
you mean, Meledei? What happened?" T'nom was feeling a bit worried at
her words. He and Pierka had finally talked again. He worried that
whatever had happened would lead to things going badly between he and
Pierka the next time he saw her.

"I approached her, asked her how she was doing and told her that we
cared about her. She evidently didn't like the fact I wasn't willing
to 'share' you." Meledei just...couldn't do that. It wasn't her.

He frowned. He liked Pierka,_alot_, and he hated that this was

hurting her. His feelings for Meledei ran deeper. They'd been burning
inside him for so long. But then in that time when he thought he'd
never see those feelings come to fruition, he'd found himself growing
closer to Pierka. He knew things could have gone deeper with her, but
things had gone a different way instead.

He rubbed his hand on his forehead, "I don't know what to do Meledei.
She was upset about that when I first talked to her as well. Quite a
lot of people in the Weyr_do_ accept that people don't stay with just

one person, yet others, choose to weyrmate to show their commitment.
Pierka is hurting._I_ hurt her. I didn't do it on purpose..." he let

his voice trail off with a sigh. "Tell me exactly what happened, so
I'll know what to expect when I see her again."

Meledei went over the conversation note by note. In the end, she
shook her head. "She is hurt, yes and she's taking it out on us." On
her especially, "Because she didn't get her way. I don't wish her
ill, but I do hope she grows up."

He frowned again, "I'm not sure how much of it is_growing up_ versus

just being hurt. You, yourself, said she was falling in love with me.
If you had been in her place, you would not be so keen to talk to the
_other_ woman, I'm sure." He looked to Meledei, hoping she understood
what he was saying. "I mean, from my own personal experience, I wasn't
sure how I would handle things had you chosen Z'ku instead. Z'ku and I
had been somewhat friendly at times, but I think I would have reacted
similarly to the way he did. They need space to deal with their
feelings."

He reached a hand over to Meledei, "I know you were trying to help.
Thank you for that. We may just need to give Pierka time before she's
ready to accept anything we say to her._I_ barely got her to talk to
me the other day."

"If you two had been in a relationship, then I could understand it a
bit more, but you weren't in one. Sleeping together doesn't make a
relationship." To Meledei, it was an intimate part of a relationship
and something she wouldn't do unless she was in a committed one, but
not everyone was like her.

"I know, Dei. I know," he patted her hand reassuringly, "But since not
everyone sees things that way, perhaps to Pierka we _were_ beginning a
relationship. If that makes sense. We just have to give her time.
Support her if she wants it and leave her be if she doesn't." His
heart ached at that thought. "It will be hard for me as well. I want
to be there for her. I _do_ care about her, and she and I created this
new life together. And now she feels as though I'm not there for her."
He sighed sadly, "It will take time. I just hope she lets me in." He
frowned again. He was so torn over all that was happening. He should
be happier than he'd ever been right now, yet, he wasn't. He felt as
though he'd made a mess of things and had no idea how to repair any of
the damage he'd done.

"I hope so too." Meledei hated to see T'nom so torn up and she
privately felt that Pierka was being extremely selfish. Meledei
didn't have to be there for all the visits to the healers, for the
birth, but she felt it was foolish, wrong, and extremely immature of
Pierka to shut out the father of the baby like that. "And I'm here
for you, in whatever way I can be."

"Thanks Meledei. I appreciate it. I don't think it's going to be an
easy road," he said with a rueful, slightly sad smile.

"No, probably not." Though it would be a lot easier of Pierka would
stop being so foolish.
