Lenala

Lenala

J'ren poked his head through the doorway and grinned at the golrider
he'd found in the Records Room. He slipped the rest of the way in then
crossed over to come alongside her. "Hey Lenala." He greeted in a
friendly manner.

"Hello, J'ren. What brings you down here to the land of dusty hides?"
Lenala greeted and asked. She put her quill away and stretched, rubbing
her face. What she didn't notice was the ink on her fingers which now
got spread to her cheek.

"Oh, just thought I'd check up on you, see how you are doing." The
sight of ink smeared upon her cheek brought out J'ren's grin once more.
"Looks like you're decorating yourself with your own supplies."

"Oh!" Lenala tried to wipe it out but only managed to spread it more.
"Record keeping is messy job," she said with helpless little laugh.

"So I see. Hold on." J'ren pulled a cloth from his pocket and held it
up. "May I?"

"Of course, J'ren," Lenala replied and leaned forward to offer her cheek
for cleaned. Naturally, she also offered him a good view inside her
cleavage.

J'ren wasn't blind, he noticed, but he didn't ogle her either. He gave
an appreciative glance, then reached up to wipe the smudge from her
cheek. "There. much better."

"Thank you," Lenala replied and leaned back again. "What makes you check
on me just now?" she asked.

"Just thought I'd come and see how one of the most beautiful women in
the Weyr was doing." J'ren's smile broadened. "Just wanted to make
sure you're doing all right and all."

"How thoughtful of you!" Lenala exclaimed, giving him her most
empty-headed smile.

J'ren knew that smile. He'd seen it on other women in the Weyr. "So...I
guess I'd better head out. Need anything before I go?"

"Aw, so soon?" Lenala asked. "How are you doing now, without U'das?" she
continued asking. There was honest concern, hidden behind the question.

"Not too bad. It's strange, and I doubt that feeling is going to go
away any time soon." J'ren shrugged. "We're adjusting. I just didn't
realise his eyesight was failing."

"I don't think anybody did, not even his children. He hid it well.
That's so typically bronzerider, not admitting you have a weakness,"
Lenala said and gave J'ren a stern look, or tried to. The expression
didn't look quite natural on face. She was very hard act more like a
proper Weyrwoman and not like a useless twit with a gold dragon. The
problem was that she felt like useless twit.

"Could you do me a favour then?" J'ren asked, his smile quite sincere.
"Would you let me know if I need to admit to a weakness? I don't want
to endanger anyone because I'm not ready to own up to something. It
would be nice to have someone help keep me accountable."

"I will. Isn't that what gold riders are for?" Lenala replied. **Or just
play things and prizes to bronzeriders."

"Actually," J'ren stated after a very brief moment. "I would say
that's more what friends are for."

"You think we are friends? Thank you," Lenala said with beautiful smile.

"If you want to be. I can always use more friends." J'ren returned her
smile with one of his own.

"So do I," Lenala replied and offered her hand.
