It had been a long day. V'lor and Quedaneth had trained hard for the
upcoming Threadfall. They wanted to fly their best and the wing had
been practicing some new maneuvers. It had taken extra time to
complete them.
He looked at the sun and frowned. B'sil was late. They had planned to
have a nice dinner together, but now the food trays were growing cold.
V'lor looked back at them and frowned.
**Quedaneth where _are_ they?** He asked her.
}: I'm uncertain. Jaydruth says they are busy.:{ Quedaneth replied,
her own tone grumpy like that of her rider's.
**Busy doing what?** He thought with a frustrated sigh. B'sil had been
late getting back to their weyr quite a few times recently. V'lor was
beginning to worry.
**Can you find out where they are? Are they alone? When will they be
back?** He asked Quedaneth.
}:Mine wishes to know where you are and if you are with others, and
when you will return.:{ Quedaneth spoke to Jaydruth.
B'sil's lips pressed into a thin line as Jaydruth relayed Quedaneth's
message. They had been weyrmates for what? Seven or eight Turns?
**Surely he should have a little faith in me by now.** The bluerider
thought, irritated by the clingy behavior of the greenrider.
}: B'sil says he will be home shortly.:{ Jaydruth told Quedaneth.
The bluerider was enjoying a game of high stakes dragonpoker, which he
knew V'lor frowned heavily upon because B'sil had lost hefty sums of
marks on more than one occasion. For a while B'sil had sworn the game
off and he didn't want V'lor to know he had taken the habit up again.
V'lor frowned when Quedaneth relayed the simple message. That hadn't
really helped ease his worries. Looking over at the food trays once
again, he got up and heaved a sigh. He took the cover off one and
checked the temperature. Cold. Just like he suspected. Sitting there,
alone, and brooding, he began to pick at the food with his fork.
Taking a few bites here and there. He didn't have _much_ of an
appetite, but he was hungry. As more time ticked by, V'lor ate a bit
more. He waited, and waited. Still no sign of B'sil.
Frustrated, he shoved the now half finished tray of food away from him
and got up and started pacing the weyr.
A bit of relief trickled through B'sil that he had not lost all of his
marks in the last hand he had sat in on. Still, he decided not to push
his luck and headed back to his and V'lor's weyr. When he entered the
lighting in the weyr was dim but B'sil could make out the pacing form
of his weyrmate.
"Hey you." He smiled.
When he heard B'sil's voice, his first reaction was relief. That was
quickly followed by anger.
"Where have you been? I thought you'd be here ages ago. Dinner is
cold." V'lor was upset. His thoughts had not been good ones. He wanted
to press B'sil further, but manged to refrain from doing so.
B'sil could read V'lor better than most thanks to the Turns that they
had shared together and he knew that he was going to have to do some
fancy work to get himself back in the greenrider's good graces.
"I was with some of the guys from the Wing. Just hanging out." He
looked to the covered plates on the table, "I am sorry about dinner."
"_With_ some of the guys?" V'lor asked, his tone less than pleased.
"We'd made plans for tonight. Obviously you forgot. Jaydruth didn't
seem inclined to share much. What were you doing that was so
secretive, eh?" Some of his suspicious came out in his thoughts and
questions. He loved B'sil more than anything and the very thought that
he might be seeing someone else outside their relationship tore at his
heart. Yet, the signs were there. B'sil had seemed more secretive of
late. He was gone at odd times. He forgot things that he would not
have forgotten in the past. Something was clearly up and V'lor worried
that it might mean the end of _them_.
B'sil knew instantly what V'lor was accusing him of and his mouth
dropped open incredulously, "You are accusing me of cheating? Really?"
How could they have been together so long and V'lor still have the
same old insecurities?
His heart lurched in his chest and V'lor felt the urge to cry and hit
B'sil all at the same time.
"What do you think? I'm left here to wonder where you are half the
time. We make plans. You forget them. You disappear for candlemarks on
end and have nothing to share about your wherabouts. _Something_ is
wrong. I _know_ it." He turned away from B'sil, not wanting the other
man to see just how close he was to tears.
"I love you, but you are keeping something from me," V'lor whispered.
"What else _am_ I supposed to think?"
B'sil stepped up behind V'lor and wrapped his arms around the shorter
greenrider, "I love you, Vay, you know that. There is no one else, I
promise. Only you, for always."
He breathed in and allowed B'sil to envelop him. V'lor was still
upset, but he found himself relaxing some at the warmth of his
weyrmate. He trailed his own fingers across B'sil's arms and spoke
quietly. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have doubted you. I was
just...worried." V'lor wasn't completely satisfied, but he didn't want
to prolong the argument. He knew something was amiss with B'sil, but
he _had_ to believe him or else he thought his heart my break in two.
