Description: Marli courts Neath once again
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 20 of Turn 7
Marli hunkered down and waited. He had found her ledge and her couch
and he knew with his little flit mind that she would be astounded at
the gifts he had brought for her. The little blue checked the mound of
shiny things on her ledge carefully. All shiny. All good. If he liked
shiny things, surely she did too. The collection of stray metal beads,
filtched necklaces and rings and even a couple of small shiny pots
from the kitchens were piled up as neatly as he could manage. He
chirped to himself proudly as he poked at the pile. On top was a
something he was most proud of, a metal shiny cup with pretty
sparklies on it. He had managed to find it after the big gold and her
human left their ledge. It even had some of that yummy red stuff still
in it. He'd tasted it and he was sure his beloved would find it just
as warming.
It had been a long day. The weyrling drills hadn't gone to plan, two
of the Holder Candidates had decided fighting one another was better
than listening to the kitchen staff. And to top it off, G'wen just
felt crappy. Thoroughly, completely crappy. He was supposed to meet
E'naer over dinner, but that was candlemarks off. He had time to go to
his weyr and just sleep.
Neath knew better than to ask him any questions. With that special
bond dragons had, she knew her rider was feeling terrible, and she
knew it ran deep in his body, a reminder of that terrible day of their
Blooding. As gently as she could she landed on her ledge and walked
in.
Things would have stayed quiet...had she not stepped right on the heap
she never saw.
Marli had been about to greet his beloved with a soft croon when her
foot lowered towards the pile he had created for her. The blue's cheep
of warning didn't come in time before the loud clatter of metal and
all of his other shinies came crashing down. With alarm, Marli sprung
into the air and chased after the shiny cup, scrabbling to get to it
before it got away. He chittered and squawked as he manage to stop
the precarious course it was making towards the ledge, the tiny
blue body plopping down on the cup.
"Oh! What the--?" G'wen all but fell off Neath as he saw the blue dart
zoomed under her feet.
Upset that her rider was so hurt and now had been jarred by her
startled movements, Neath roared at the tiny blue flit.
There was a shrill chirrup of dismay as Marli hunkered into a little
heap on top of the metal cup. Large eyes whirled rapidly
as the little blue stared up at the object of his affections and waves
of contriteness poured from him.
Not in the mood to put up with the little flit's flirting, Neath
grumbled at him. G'wen peered down at the forlorn creature before
slidding off the green's shoulder. "Hey, little man, where's your
owner?"
Marli stared at Neath and then turned to blink at G'wen as he clutched
the metal cup with tight little talons. Shifting from foot to foot, he
sent an image of a little bumbling green hatching with his pet at the
lake.
"Ah, I see." **Be nice to him, Neath, I think he's having a bad day**
The green grumbled but peered down at the contents of the cup.
Marli bobbed his head and noting Neath's interest, he carefully shoved
the cup towards her. He hopped back and then taking comfort in G'wen's
understanding, he jumped and winged his way to settle on the rider's
shoulder. Crooning, he rubbed his head against G'wen's cheek and then
stretched out his neck towards Neath.
If dragons could sigh and roll their eyes, Neath would have. Instead
she was resigned to sniffing the cup. }:This is more for you than me,
I think,:{ she told her rider.
They both looked at Marli.
Marli bobbed his head to encourage the green to try the yummy red
stuff that still remained in the cup. He had rather liked it and it
ticked his tongue delightfully. He turned to G'wen and hopped on his
shoulder with a soft croon and bobbed his head more. He turned his
gaze back to Neath, and taking a chance, leapt off of G'wen's shoulder
to land on Neath's head and rub his chin over her headknobs.
G'wen had a thought whilst watching the tiny blue and the long
suffering green. "Marli, would you like to spend the night here?"
The little blue bobbed his head eagerly and then splayed himself over
the greens head with a blissful sigh and a wiggle of an upturned tail.
It was clear that that was where he planned on staying.
Neath sighed and gave G'wen a woeful glance.
