After hearing about what was done, Sarban couldn't believe it. He
knew Corowal didn't always make the best decisions-especially where that
fostermother was concerned, but this was a little much. In front of the whole
SHARDING HOLD and half of Amber Hills too! With the burden of Lisadi, the man
let it alone while Turnover was going on but as soon as everyone was gone, he
knew he owed it to Corowal to let him know what a fool thing he had done for so
many reasons. That was part of his job-to protect the Hold and the Lord
Holder-even from himself sometimes.
"Sarban, do come in," Corowal called.
Clad in his usual light tunic and trousers, Sarban made his way
inside and sat down. It was clear by his posture that he was displeased.
However, he would let Corowal begin the conversation as he thought about
everything.
"What's up, Sarban? You look like you've swallowed a
trundlebug," Corowal asked, observing his expression and body
language.
"Well...see I was at Turnover and I was sitting there and then
I just happened to see my Lord Holder acting inappropriately toward the help in
front of the rest of the Hold, including his wife-who is still getting over a
miscarriage." His tone was mild-after all he was speaking to Corowal, who he
owed alot-but it was clear he was angry on Felyna's behalf and because of the
position he was in after he had told Erassa to behave and he had even warned his
cousin.
Pained expression flashed on Corowal's face. "Can we blame it on
too much wine?"
"Doesn't matter, there needs to be something done-damage
control both publicly and privately." This was Corowal's personal business so
Sarban wasn't going to get too deeply into it, but his cousin needed to know
how it was going to effect him. "Because not only was it our Hold, but all the
Amber Hills folks were there too. You can't afford for the South to think you a
fool. Not when we have to actively deal with the likes of Morin and his
ilk."
"Don't you have anything better to do? Like chasing a certain
prisoner?" Corowal snapped and instantly regretted it. This was Sarban after
all. "I'm sorry, Sarban. That was uncalled for," he apologized immediately.
"The whole thing and the prison escape has me on a foul mood."
"I'm not happy about that either. And I'm sure Zandan is working to fix it. We've got
some trackers on it, but the boy had a headstart." He was just glad no one got
seriously hurt though the idea of that boy getting away rankled. "But seriously,
I'm going to leave it up to you but keep in mind here lately it's been one thing
after another. First the whole thing with your son the bronzerider no one knew
and now this after everything with Felyna...." Of course if Sarban had his way,
Erassa would have been gone. Too much trouble-that one. "And yeah, the boy
getting away while you were looking the other way with your fostermother....you
know what they'll say. The Lord Holder can't keep us safe, he's too busy tupping
the fostermother when he has a beautiful little wife."
"Yes...Felyna," Corowal winced. "I was just horrible towards her and it wasn't fair towards poor
Erassa either. I expect both ladies are quite displeased with me right now. I
get too impulsive from time to time." He sighed and sunk lower on his chair. "If
you and Lisadi ever get back together, stay true to her. Don't do as I do.
You'll just end tangled up in _two_ woman's skirts."
"Ah so you haven't faced the music? Hm." He ignored the second statement since it was obvious he
didn't plan on doing any such thing. Sarban didn't have the luxury of Bloodlines
and wealth to excuse adultery or even the semblance of it. "Let me know how that
goes. Or don't. Just...take my advice and be a little more careful about what
you do publicly from now on. We have too much work to do and no time for the
problems caused." Speaking of which, he handed Corowal the list of prospective
settlers for one of their abandoned holdings.
"Yes, sir!" Corowal said with ironic tone. He took the list and and gave in a quick read
over.
"You know I am only trying to look out for your best interest. What
if we fecked up and Corofel didn't have anything worth inheriting? I thought the
idea was to give him something better than you started with." His tone was
sympathetic, trying to convey to Corowal that he was worrying about
him.
"I know, Sarban, and I do appreaciate it. Even if I _hate_ being
scolded," Corowal replid. "You make such a good Steward because you don't
hesitate to speak up, even when you know it will not be well
received."
"You know that's because if you feck up I won't have anywhere
to live right?" He smiled and rubbed his cousin's shoulder.
"Well, that's a very good motivation to keep me in line," Corowal grinned.
