He busted into the other rider?s weyr without bothering to walk
slowly. Yelling, E'rae hoped K?mai was home. Seeing a chair turned
over, he righted the thing and wondered if there wasn't going to be
a hangover or something else involved. **Ah well**
K'mai appeared in the doorway of the sleeping area, holding his head.
"By the egg, what is it?" He wasn't wearing anything, but it wasn't
anything E'rae hadn't seen before.
Not missing a beat, the bluerider came forward and put his hands on
the other man's shoulders. Looking him right in the eyes, he just said
it. "I'm going to be a father again."
K'mai blinked a few times as the information sank in. "Oh?" His lips
spread in a wide smile. "Congratulations! Who's the lucky woman?'
"Bahji," he answered, dropping his hands as he waited for that to sink in.
"Have you met her?"
He tilted his head. "The blind girl you've been seeing? No, I haven't
met her yet."
"Well yeah, that's her. See...it's different than last time though. Cause she
was a holder and....there was no one else you know? She says she understands
but I know there are some expectations." E'rae scratched the back of one hand
as he thought about it.
"Does she want to weyrmate?" K'mai had tried that once and it didn't
work out too well.
"I don't think so. She understands I'm not really that type of person." At least
he hoped she did. It seemed like she did. **Why did you ask that
question, K'mai?**
"So what kind of expectations?" K'mai asked.
A young woman appeared behind him, wearing a loose dress. "What's
going on?" She yawned.
"E'rae is going to have a baby," K'mai told her, grinning.
Her eyes brightened. "Oh. Congratulations!"
"Uh thanks," he replied before considering the last question. "Well
it's her first baby and she's blind and then she also isn't really speaking to her
family soo... I told her I'd help when I could." He sincerely hoped nothing would go wrong.
"Is she going to foster?" K'mai asked.
The woman rolled her eyes and muttered, "If you're going to have a
conversation, put some clothes on for Faranth's sake." She disappeared
back into the sleeping area to find something for him to wear.
"I don't think so. I told her my sister would help her, if she needed it. We'll
see though. Apparently the Weyrwoman brought it up." And therein was another
concern. E'rae's personal life had somehow made it all the way to the
senior goldrider.
K'mai raised an eyebrow. "The Weyrwoman?" His female companion
reappeared and handed him a robe with a little nudge.
"Aye, Bahji's father made a little visit-trying to take her back to the Hold.
Rhosyn got involved." That was natural enough, of course. And since Bahji
was still here, K'mai could figure out the outcome of that.
"Am I right in thinking there was trouble?" K'mai asked as he pulled
on the robe.
"He struck her. Suffice it to say he isn't ever allowed here again." E'rae was
still angry about that.
K'mai's eyes widened. "I wouldn't be surprised if the Weyrwoman struck
the man herself after he hit his daughter. His _pregnant_ daughter."
K'mai wasn't a violent man, but seeing something like that might tempt
him to use his fist.
"Might very well have. I don't know. I didn't ask any more questions. For her
sake I am not going to that Hold to find him, though." He shook his head, bringing
back those feelings of anger just thinking about it.
"She'll have a better life now, that's the most important part." K'mai
never understood how holders could treat women the way they did.
"I hope so. At least she'll get one of the things she wanted. As it is, I
think I need a drink. And I think you'll need to come supervise." E'rae
gave a look over to the female in the room.
K'mai chuckled. "Sure thing. Care to join us, Samyl?"
"If E'rae doesn't mind," she said.
"As long as Bahji doesn't end up hearing a story about how K'mai and I
had a threesome, I'm good with it." Faranth knew with the way the Weyr was....
