Tavia

Tavia

The gold flit popped into existence at Dragonsfall and chittered a
greeting to a big bronze. Then she settled on the top of Kalamath's
head with a chirp and got comfortable. This wasn't the first time her
person had her come find the big bronze and she radiated her happiness
at finding him so quickly. Of course anyone looking up would clearly
see the message roll she carried.

}:U'kaiah, my pretty cousin is here.:{

His rider knew exactly who he meant. **Glory...** Tavia had sent him a
message. **Is she upset?** he asked, lifting his head up from the arm
of his couch. He was always a little worried that she might be bringing
alarming news. It was one of the hard parts of living so far apart -
not knowing what might be happening over at Dolphin Cove until it was
too late.

}:No, she is happy. And her talons need a trim I think. I have pretty
tough skin, but I can feel them when she grips.:{

The bronzerider knew all too well the damage those little claws could
inflict. His back still bared the scars. He reached up unconsciously
and touched the notch in his ear that her little teeth had also given
him. **Don't let her go anywhere until I get there.**

U'kaiah pulled himself up and put his boots back on. The nap would have
to wait. He stopped off at shelf near the entrance to his ledge where
he had learned to keep a small tin of treats for when the little flit
came. "Hello there, little beauty," he said, holding out a piece of
fish jerky for her to take. Though they had certainly made their peace
after that nasty night time incident, he wasn't entirely sure if she
really came to him willingly, or just because he always gave her things
to eat.

Either way, he was able to slip the rolled up hide from her leg. The
message inside made his heart beat faster and his hands feel clammy.
}:What? What is it?:{ Kalamath could sense his rider's nervousness.
"Tell D'ale I can't meet him for drinks tonight. We have to go to
Dolphin Cove. Immediately."

}:Why? What's the rush?:{ The bronze had planned to catch the last
rays of sun up on the Heights with Kjarliheth. He rather enjoyed
spending time with the green and was not happy about having to miss the
opportunity.

Of course, all that was quickly forgotten as he settled down next to
Suwath. }:Were you just oiled?:{ he asked with a purr, touching his
nose to hers. }:Your skin shines so beautifully.:{

U'kaiah left his bronze to his flirting. "Tavia?"

Sawauth preened and arched her neck at his praise and Tavia just
chuckled. Sawauth was as much a sucker for Kalamath as Tavia was for
U'kaiah.

"In here," she called from the bed alcove where she was playing with
Kaiavin. At six months old he could roll himself over and delighted in
squirming around as his diaper was being changed. For the moment
though he was sitting in her lap while they played hand clapping
games. A high staccato baby laugh erupted and she began the game
again.

"Well, you two look like you're having fun," he smiled as he made his
way over to the bed. U'kaiah didn't want to interrupt their little
game, so he just took a seat next to the greenrider on the bed. She was
so good with him. Much better than he was, which was to be expected
since he only had a chance to see the baby a few times a month. It
seemed every time they met, Kaiavin was doing something new and his
father always felt like he was playing catch-up. "Is he crawling yet?"
he asked, reaching out a finger to lightly tickle the baby's stomach.
He seemed to like that.

Tavia smiled back a him. "You sure got here fast." She bounced Kaiavin
a little and he giggled and patted his hands together then reached out
or rather leaned toward U'kaiah in an obvious, 'pick me up' move.
"No," she said. "He'll be getting there soon though." She lifted him
out of her lap to hand him to his father. "He gets up on his hands and
knees and just kind of rocks back and forth and then falls flat on his
stomach again."

"Well, he's getting there, then." U'kaiah took him, but held him a bit
warily for a few moments as he waited to see if the baby would accept
being moved to his lap. The last time he had visited, Kaiavin had
actually cried when he tried to hold him at first. Perhaps it was a
little silly, but the bronzerider's feeling had actually been stung a
little. While the baby did turn his head to make sure his mama was not
going anywhere, he seemed to quickly relax into his father's arms.

Tavia bit back a chuckle but she couldn't keep the smile of her face
at the way U'kaiah held their son. "Here," she said handing him a
small hard cracker. "He's teething."

"Teething? As in getting teeth? I thought babies didn't get teeth
till... later..." He didn't actually know when, but he just couldn't
image that much time had passed already!

"He's growing fast," she said watching them both. "That's part of the
reason I sent you the note."

"Oh?" he asked innocently, though it had been the working of the note
that had brought him so quickly. U'kaiah studied his son with feigned
concentration as he encouraged her to go on. "How so?"

Tavia chuckled and shook her head. "Yes, well... You asked me a
question awhile back and I though you should have an answer."

He turned his head to look at her as she laughed, a chagrined smile on
his face. U'kaiah knew he couldn't pull off innocent even when he _was_
innocent. Whenever _that_ was. "So you thought about it? About moving
to Dragonsfall?" He couldn't help the hopeful note in his voice.

Her grin didn't diminish in the least as she nodded. "Yes I've thought
about it. I'd like to give it a try. It would be good for Kaiavin to
be closer to you." She looked down at her hands. "And for me." She
didn't think she needed to add that if it didn't work out they'd come
back here. But then he still had to talk his Aileyan to make it
happen.

His hand came into sight as he reached for hers. "And for me, too,
Tavia," he said gently, his heart brimming with happiness at the thought
of having them both so near. "There isn't a day that has gone by that I
haven't thought about it." To live in the same time zone, to not have
to worry about what he's missing, to truly _be_ there for the both of
them more than just a couple times a month... The only thing tempering
his enthusiasm was knowing that a potentially disastrous discussion with
Aileyan would have to happen soon. He had already told Tavia that if
his other lover could not live with her being so close, he would have to
bow to her wishes. As deeply as he cared for Tavia, he cared for
Aileyan, too, and didn't want to lose either one of them. "Just your
saying that you would come makes me truly happy."

His reaction made her very happy as well. "Can you stay for dinner,"
she asked softly. She reached for their son. "He can go stay with
Ranari and you can show me how happy."

As he handed back his son, he put an arm around her, leaning into her
body. "Are you sure you'll want me so much when you can see me any time
you want? I might not be half so appealing close up."

Shifting Kaiavin to her hip while the baby concentrated on his
cracker, she hugged Ukaiah's head to her. "I'm sure... Just don't put
me in your wing."

"I would never do that to you. Then you'd _really_ see how unappealing
I can be." And he'd be damned /between/ before letting her be placed in
G'nir's Wing. "No, I'm going to keep you as far away from danger as I
possibly can."

"Alright then," she said with a laugh. "I'll take him down and be back
with dinner in a few minutes."

"Why don't I come with you?" U'kaiah held out his arms for Kaiavin once
more, sad that he would spend so little time with him this trip, but
hopeful that soon he would see him any time he wished.

The baby leaned toward his father again and Tavia let him go. "Good
idea," she said and put her arm around U'kaiah from the side for a
squeeze. Then she picked up Kiavin's bag and tossed a few things into
it and headed for the door.
