Good Influence

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 23rd February 2013

Characters: Rhosyn, J'ren
Description: Rhosyn asks J'ren to do her a little favor.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 18 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Lenala

Rhosyn was sitting in her office, waiting for the wingsecond to show up.
She had something to speak to him about-something that had been weighing
on her mind. Hoping it would go as well as she hoped, she sipped the
juice sitting there as she fingered wing formation diagrams.

"Weyrwoman," J'ren called through the door, then entered once given
leave. He smiled to her and gave her a bow. "Good day to you. You
wished to see me?"

"Indeed. Please sit." She gestured for him to take some of the crackers
left sitting on the corner of the desk if he wanted, but Rhosyn set aside her
charts and put her hands under her chin as she thought about how best to have this
conversation. "J'ren, you're a good rider and a good wingsecond. You've
been at this Weyr for a long time. I know you take your duty to this
Weyr seriously." Her hazel eyes focused on him and she smiled. "I need you
to help me."

"Of course, if I can." J'ren accepted the offer of crackers. They
weren't necessarily his favorite snack, but hey, he was peckish so he
might as well partake. He took a bite, then swallowed it before he
continued. "How can I help you?"

"Well Lenala, my wingsecond, is currently in training to improve her
leadership skills. And I think it would be good for her to have other folk
besides myself to speak to. You, of course, are also a wingsecond, so
you have experience she could benefit from. She needs to be surrounded
by good people and good influences." Rhosyn didn't think it needed to be
said that Lenala was a follower who could be easily swayed. She was trying
to change it, but it was a hard road uphill.

J'ren finished the cracker and clapped his hands over the plate
to get rid of the crumbs, though not at the expense of her floor. "I've
heard she's...well, not the usual goldrider." They tended to be
independent, intelligent and quick witted. Rhosyn certainly was, as were
the goldriders before her. "But I will certainly be happy to help in
any way I can."

"I'm trying to show her that she can make decisions, but I think it would
be a good idea for her to have encouragement from other folk, as well. She
lacks confidence, mainly due to her prior mistakes and her poor training."
Frowning, Rhosyn thought about how much to divulge without breaching
Lenala's confidence. "J'ren, I need her to be better both for the
wing and for the Weyr. I think you can help me do that since Lenala has a
history of trusting men more than women. Is this something you can do?"

"It's something I'm willing to try." J'ren nodded, quite serious. The
Weyr needed all its goldriders to be strong - and a goldrider who hadn't
received proper training had been done a disservice. "I'll seek her
out today."

"Thanks, I really appreciate it. Let me know how it goes mmmkay?" And if
he learned anything that would help, Rhosyn would be grateful.

"I'll do my best, Weyrwoman, and I'll let you know." J'ren stood and
pondered this new assignment, as it were. He gave the Weyrwoman a bow
then headed out of her office. She had a point - and if J'ren could
help Lenala, he would. Doing so would only help strengthen the Weyr.
