Description: The three of them meet to discuss hatching duties.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 5 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: K'sedel, Solieira
Since D'ren was young and this was his first hatching, even at River
Bluff, Rhosyn had decided to include him in their little rehearsal meeting.
That way everyone was on the same page and she knew the Headwoman
would thank her later probably. Lenala had been present for all of hers at the Weyr,
but Rhosyn wanted to make sure this time she was more prepared, confident,
and ready.
So it was that the Weyrwoman was waiting in her sitting room in
her weyr with a platter of food waiting for everyone to arrive.
D'ren knocked politely and shifted his feet, a little nervous.
Menanth's first Clutch had him excited, but now it was hitting
home that he would personally be getting a lot of attention at
the Hatching. He'd have to make sure he wasn't making a fool of
himself.
Lenala's heels made a clipping sound on the stone floor when she
hurried to the meeting. She had just picked up her new gather dress from
Weavers and was on a pleased mood.
"Come in," came the easy call. Rhosyn hoped this wouldn't be too hard.
There were just a few things they needed to get straight. She did have a
few ideas up her sleeve that she would talk with Lenala about later, though.
"Thank you, Weyrwoman." D'ren gave her a polite nod as he entered. He
couldn't help a quick glance around. This was the first time he'd been
in a Weyrwoman's weyr. He reminded himself not to be nervous.
Lenala arrived a few minutes after D'ren. "D'ren, Rhosyn."
She gave them both a bright smile.
"Feel free to eat, I can't swallow all of that myself," replied the Weyrwoman
with a small smile before she watched them both sit down. "Okay so everyone
knows that Vilarth's clutch is going to hatch which will mean a feast and guests
at the Weyr. Lenala's been through this before but this is your first time D'ren so
I thought it would be good to go over things. Solieira will of course handle the
food so that's taken care of and K'sedel coordinates picking up our
guests, but it's left to us to be the hosts at the event." Her hazel eyes
fell on the young bronzerider to see how he felt about that.
"Yes ma'am. I hope I can do both of you and the Weyr proud," D'ren said.
"Do you have a suitable outfit for the occasion? You are going to be
hosting the Hatching feast and need to look a part," Lenala asked,
giving the young bronzerider a critical look over.
"It should be finished soon. I spoke to the weavers after Menanth won
the Flight and asked them to make me a new one." His old outfit was
suitable for attending Hatchings, but he knew he needed something of a
higher quality when he'd be the center of attention. It had cost
precious marks, but he'd been very pleased at the last fitting.
"Good good.." Rhosyn commented, liking that the boy had taken the initiative.
She'd have to tell K'sedel that. "You'll be escorting Lenala, naturally, but you
won't have to spend the entire evening by her side. After the first few dances,
you should be free to mingle or celebrate as you please, but you are expected
to sit at the Head Table with us during the feast and dance the first dance with
her as well as make the necessary introductions to our guests." Ticking off her
list, she thought that was pretty much it. In the back of her mind, she wondered
if D'ren had seen the faulty looking egg, but she didn't mention it.
D'ren nodded. It was a lot and it made his stomach jitter, but he
thought he could handle it. This was what he needed, a new start, new
responsibilities. Maybe this would help him rediscover part of his old
self. "Okay."
"Lenala, you need to make sure he knows who our guests are and will know them
either by sight or their knots. Maybe do some practice introductions?" It would be
good for the two of them to practice together and it would give Lenala something
to do to prepare. It was her hatching, after all.
"Okay," Lenala nodded. At least she was confident with her etiquette. Her mother
had made sure she knew exactly how to behave around important people.
"Lenala, is there anything you want to add that you were thinking about specifically?"
Rhosyn looked at her list and saw there was one more thing she'd written down to
mention.
"I'm going through the menu with Solieira," Lenala replied. "And the
candidates visited eggs yesterday. As far as I see, everything is
going well."
"Is there anything else I need to do?" D'ren asked.
"That's all I can think of for now. If you have any questions before the time comes,
Lenala can probably answer them." Rhosyn inclined her head to the other goldrider.
"I'm happy to help you any way I can, D'ren," Lenala said, giving him
a look through her eyelashes.
