Idle Chatter

Characters: D'lorn, S'jen
Description: D'lorn and S'jen chat over breakfast.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 7 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: S'ber; Mentor Approved

S'jen was feeling...twitchy.

Not that he'd ever admit it to himself, of course. But he was feeling,
of all things, lonely. For company and chatter, and things that
blanked out the thoughts in your own head.

He'd not really set out, that morning, looking for anyone, but when
his eyes caught D'lorn's over the breakfast table, he swung himself to
a seat across from the man. "How's that green of ours? Behaving herself?"

Looking up to find S'jen's face there, D'lorn actually was rather happy.
The guy was interesting and he was a bluerider soo.. "Aye well she rose
and got herself caught by a bronze so she's happy enough until the next
time." Of course the greenrider was still sporting a few bruises but he
was sitting comfortably now.

"My, my..." Mobile eyebrows flickered. "All those cold baths paid off,
apparently." He snagged himself a meatroll from a passing server.

"You could say that. I was looking for your blue, actually." Maybe he
was out of the Weyr or something. D'lorn hated to think he had missed
it on purpose.

"Harloth? He's sporting a thread score and a bad attitude at the moment,
sorry." He said it fairly glibly, unconcerned if the other took offence to
the upbeat attitude or not.

"Oh I hadn't heard. What happened?" D'lorn leaned in closer, eager for
details. S'jen didn't seem bothered or injured so the dragon must have
gotten the brunt of it.

"Oh ha ha, don't be settling in for an interesting story. He failed to
duck between, he got his butt threaded. It's only a mild thing but his
*dignity* has been affronted, you understand...."

He chuckled again, then shot the other a look from under those hooded
eyelids. "Sure you have a more interesting story, anyhow."

"Well it isn't that interesting. She flew and Dylorth caught. He's a
younger bronze but has good form and is healthy. Have you seen S'ber? The
boy is...well he's......large. I think it was a foregone conclusion that he'd
have to impress bronze because it's needed to carry him around. Well needless
to say I was banged around some but I know he didn't intend for that and the
boy felt awful. Not to mention that he probably found it awkward since he was
a weyrling not too long ago anyway."

Stranger things had happened to D'lorn when it came to flights so he wasn't
really bothered by it. He would heal and Villith would fly again. That's how
things worked.

S'jen's laugh was totally his- loud, good humored and utterly vulgar-
at the idea, at the description, at the bronzer's inconvenient
attributes, at D'lorn's innocently matter of fact delivery. Eventually, he
wiped his eyes and took a swig of drink. "That made my day. Totally made
it. As you so often do, dear man."

"Ah well, I aim to please you." His brow went up just slightly, wondering
if that was an invitation on S'jen's part. He still hurt, but certain things
could be managed and truth be told, he preferred them to be managed by
the bluerider.

"Oh my." His voice was quiet and deadpan. But both eyebrows flickered back,
both intrigued and just a touch saucy. He hadn't actually been looking
for what D'lorn was hinting at...the compliment had been a little more
wide reaching than that. The man did often manage to cheer him up when
he was feeling off balance. He enjoyed his company.

All the same... he enjoyed *all* his company. He'd never exactly say
no. But he wasn't feeling pushy either. Greenriders got pushed around
enough on occasion.

"I'll have to keep that one in mind, won't I?" Dark eyes sparkled.
