"...and I thought you might want to check him yourself. I've gotten him warmed up as well as I can but I'm still worried about frostbites. Tangling on rope in ice-gorge like that," Sh'dori was explaining his brothers situation to the Weyrhealer. After he had gotten A'dori back to
almost normal, he had went to get a healer. Just in case.
"Lay down, A'dori," the Weyrhealer said, his eyes holding a hint of concern. "Lay down and let me have a look at you."
"My finger's are still cold and stiff," the greenrider complained, rubbing his hands against each other.
"Let me see," the Weyrhealer said gently as he reached for the greenrider's hands. He frowned as he turned the fingers over. "Traxal, get a pan of warm water ready," he called to a passing journyman. "Now A'dori, are there anywhere else that you have lost feeling? How are your toes?"
"Cold too and they feel like someone is pricking them with needles," A'dori replied. He was starting to sound concerned too.
"Well, lets see if we can't find some warm water to immerse those toes in too." He wrapped some blankets around the greenrider's center. "We need to get you warmed up, A'dori."
"Why it is that smarter they are, the worse they are in taking care of themself?" Sh'dori wondered, his voice full of brotherly concern.
"Because we can't all be beautiful and responsible," the Weyrhealer chuckled as took the bowl of warm water from the journeyman. "All right, A'dori, we need to warm you up gradually and see if we can't get your blood flowing normally to your hands and feet."
"Beautiful, you can't call him beautiful. He looks like sharding shaggy canine," A'dori protested while he did as the Weyrhealer had told.
"You're not exactly a bald person yourself," Sh'dori retorted back. He was heartened that his brother could at least banter normally.
"Let's not compare hair here, boys, or I will put you both to shame," the Weyrhealer said with a glint in his eye and a shake of his furry upper lip.
The brothers glanced each other and laughed. "You obviously haven't seen Sh'dori without his shirt," A'dori chuckled.
"Yeah, and if I didn't shave, you couldn't tell the front of my face from the back of my head."
"Well, my wife would tell you she had mistaken me for the canine in the night a couple times," Pacham chuckled.
"Sounds like a tie. Considering that women use him as a bedfur. How's my fingers doing?" A'dori said and asked.
Sh'dori only chuckled.
"Can you flex your fingers for me?"
A'dori flexed his fingers. To Sh'dori it looked like they moved normally.
"How do they feel?" Pacham asked as he lifted the greenriders hand to inspect it.
"Like someones pricking them with needles."
"Well, hopefully that feeling will fade into normal feeling. The blood is coming back into them." Pacham pinched the fingertip and nodded satisfactorally. "I think we should keep them in the water to warm them up a bit longer, but I don't see any reason to think they were damaged.
Now, how about your toes?"
"They feel normal" A'dori replied and wiggled his toes.
"Very good! Well then," Pacham stood up and gave both riders a satisfied nod. "I suppose I'd better check on my other patients. Keep your fingers in the water and I will come back to check on you soon. Anything either of you need before I go?"
Both brother's shook their heads.
"Thank you, Pacham. You made a stone roll off from my heart," Sh'dori said.
"Stones on the heart are not healthy, brownrider," Pacham smiled. "Come see me any time you need help with that."
"Like get rid of my family for me? They turn me grey," Sh'dori asked and run his fingers thru his grey-striped hair.
"Trust me, I have five children, a wife and now _grandchildren_... It's amazing I didn't go comeplete white at your age." He gave the brownrider an understanding pat on the back. "Call me if you need me."
"Of course, let's just hope I don't have to."
