Almonteo

Almonteo

"Thank-you for coming," Mayla said, inviting Almonteo into her office, "How is Carmora doing today?"

He gave the headwoman a genuine smile. "Oh, fine. She just came back from our son's home, so I think she's a bit tired."

"That's goo," Mayla said, gesturing for Almonteo to take the seat opposite her, "how is she finding the transition so far? It must be difficult coming from outside."

"Yes, I suppose it could be. We are all doing our best to adjust to our new situation. I think seeing our son was good for her." At least he truly hoped that it had. They still were not on the happiest of terms, but he knew his wife. Things would find a way of working themselves out.

"Where does he live?" Mayla asked curiously. She was yet to learn much about the Hallmaster and his personal life.

"He's a healer in a mountain hold far west of here. He is married and has a young daughter. And we just learned is expecting another child."
How Almonteo had wished he could have gone with Carmora for a visit, but... not yet.

"Oh that's great news," Mayla said enthusiastically, "You must be so excited."

"Certainly," he grinned. "It will be our fifth."

"Lucky," Mayla said a little enviously, none of her children had given birth yet. Despite her busy schedule Mayla longed for a grandchild.

"Yes, we are quite lucky," the Hallmaster nodded. "And we still have two children yet to settle down." Of course, Almora being a dragonrider, there was no guarentee she ever _would_ settle down...

"Speaking of settling down," Mayla said, trying to shift the conversation back to the topic at hand. Unfortunetly she had little tim nowadays to for even smalltalk, "I had wanted to know if you have any concerns about the way any of your hall members are being treated by the Weyrfolk. If there are any problems I would like to put an end to them before anything gets out of hand, as I am sure that you do too..."

"Yes, of course," Almonteo nodded. "I haven't yet heard of anything that wasn't more than a minor misunderstanding that had been quickly cleared up. But I think the Harpers have been too busy setting up the new Hall to have mixed to much with the Weyrfolk. I suppose that will change soon."

"Excellent," Mayla said, although she knew that it wouldn't be long before trouble arose. Unfortunetly she had little faith in the riders to respect the Hall's former ways.

"I have appreciated all your help in settling us in, Mayla. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we can return the favor."

"Think before you think Master Almonteo," Mayla warned teasingly, "I might take you up on that offer."

"I sincerly hope you do," the Hallmaster smiled. "We owe you and the Weyr a great debt of gratitude."

"In that case maybe we can arrange for a little music after dinner sometime. Once you are settled in of course," Mayla suggested, "I know that the riders would appreciate the chance to relax a bit."

"Once we have our Hall settled, perhaps I can make arrangements with your Weyr Harper and see if we can't get a few of our members into their rotation then."

"That would be much apprecitated," Mayla said happily, she could not wait to hear more of the Harpers' music.
