It was time for their little weekly chat. Rhosyn didn?t exactly look forward to it, but it was necessary. There were times that she wondered how on Pern Lenala had ended up as Tsaera?s Second. She remembered when the pair had left Vista Point before she had, but she had never imagined..and now here she was, having inherited the girl she'd seen impress so many turns ago. Sitting in the room off her weyr that she called her situation room, she waited for the other goldrider to walk over.
Lenala's arms were loaded with records she had been updating during the last sevenday or so. She shifted them around nervously and pushed the door open with her hip. At least she _knew_ Rhosyn, having Impressed in the same Weyr. But they never had much in common. Rhosyn had been the bad girl, a rebel, while Lenala had played the part of pretty, clueless, man-chasing but obedient girl.
Seeing her in such a state, the Weyrwoman got up and moved to grab some of the records. The Records Room was also attached to her weyr, which she hated. ?Sheesh, what are all of these??
"Inventory and tithe reports, Weyr staff records," Lenala unloaded them to the table.
?Uhh...a harper will put them up-later.? Thus delegating that responsibility, Rhosyn took her seat again and gestured for Lenala to do the same. There was juice and sandwiches if the other rider wanted any. ?Allright before we get into wing issues, anything with the Weyr or your duties that needs to be discussed?? This was Lenala?s time to bring up anything she wanted that wasn?t on the agenda.
"Some of them need your signature," Lenala reminded her. Hers wasn't good enough, she was the 'Second after all. She just shook her head as a reply to Rhosyn's question.
Cursing under her breath, Rhosyn just nodded. She?d go through them after this was done. **Stupid hidework** ?Allright, wing stuff... Im?re is doing much better and I don?t think he?ll be with us too much longer. I?ve got to talk to Y?gel to confirm it, but he looks good. We?ve got a few that are pregnant now who will be joining, so I don?t think it?ll be an issue at present.?
?Some of the more heavily injured are now on the moderate injury list with healing so they can move around more. Hanieth and his are still not even able to between yet.? Sometimes she felt a little like a nurse minder since it was almost as if her wing wasn?t a real wing-just invalids. In the end, though, she was doing vital work, giving the injured something to do and pushing them back to health.
"I kind of liked having Im're around," Lenala said. The young bluerider was one of those people who seemed to make people around him smile, without doing anything special. "Vilarth had to reprimand Essillith for over working," she reported.
?Oh? Hm. I think that green would forget her own name but for her rider half the time. She probably didn?t even remember she had just regrown her wingsail.? Shaking her head, she marked off her notes. ?M?argio is giving the healers fits. I went by to see him and had to basically order him to mind them less he pop his stitches. We?ll see him in a few months? time. Has Vilarth had her turnagain physical??
"Not yet," Lenala shook her dark curls.
?Well get with Y?gel and get that done. Need to make sure everything?s working as it should.? With them not having a full compliment of golds, it was especially necessary to keep the ones they had healthy.
"I'll get to it," **eventually** Lenala said with a nod. Vilarth was in fine health, she didn't see any need to hurry with it.
?Tithes are where they should be. The new vintner is working hard to give us something else to trade with down the line, though I think much of it will go to our riders as reward anyway or be served at gathers. Has your flamethrower been checked by the smiths lately??
"Yes, just during the past month," Lenala replied. Sometimes she felt like Rhosyn was talking to her like she was a child. That was her own doing though, for she concentrated to look pretty and bat her eyelashes.
"Kay, that's all I have for now since you have the report on how many we'll be getting in and out the next few sevendays from Y'gel. You have anything to add or bring up?" Nothing awful had happened recently, it had mostly been smooth sailing for awhile, for which she was thankful.
"No, things have been fairly routine," Lenala replied, grateful of that. Every time Orlaith was with eggs (and that seemed to happen often), Lenala was responsible for the Wing in the air. Every time she prayed nothing unexpected would happen. When she was leading the wing, she kept strictly to the routine, not daring to change anything, even if she did have ideas.
?Good. Here?s hoping for a gold egg next time so we can have a little help.? Rhosyn was looking forward to training a goldrider her way from start to finish, but she didn?t mention that to anyone.
"Yes," Lenala agreed fervently. "Vilarth hasn't produced a gold egg for _ages_", she continued.
?Orlaith has had some, but not a one since we came here obviously.? Frowning, she remembered what K?sedel had said. When it was needed, it would come. ?I figure the schedule will remain what it is for now since we?re all up in the air. If there?s nothing else, I?ll see you at dinner.? When one of them was grounded, they could take on more of the mundane duties like hidework that needed doing. When they were all flying, it was distributed so it meant Rhosyn had to do more of that.
"That's fine by me," Lenala replied.
