Description: Young apprentice has a scare
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 8, day 10 of Turn 6
It was early in the morning and Milga was shuffling through the
hallways nervously, looking for the Headwoman. She trusted her and
maybe she could help her. She had tears in her eyes and kept tripping
because she wasn't watching where she was going.
Jylanya was on her way from her office to the kitchens. It wasn't all
that far but she did have to use the main hallways. As she rounded the
corner she almost ran into someone. "Excuse me," she said as she
dodged the young apprentice.
"Jylanya, can I talk with you?" her voice wasn't quite steady.
The girl's tone alerted her that something wasn't ok and she was
immediately concerned. "Sure dear," she said. "What's wrong?"
"I have blood in my bed and in my panties," she told her after nervous swallow.
"My my," said Jylanya. She could see how distressed the girl was and
she'd been crying. "Come with me," she said and put her arm around the
girl's shoulders and guided her toward her own quarters that was only
a few doors away. Once they got inside the door she turned to the
girl. "Has no one talked to you about woman things?"
"Some," Milga said, wringing her hands. Mostly her stepmother had told
her the scary stuff.
"Ok well first let's get you cleaned up ok?" She moved to her cabinet
and pulled out some supplies. "This is a normal thing for a girl who
is turning in to a woman Milga," she said in her calmest tone.
Inwardly she railed at whatever had caused this painful gap in the
girl's education. "Do you still live with your parents or are you in
the girls dormitory?" Of course that information would be in her
records but she didn't have those with her at the moment.
"Girls dorm," Milga replied. She was relieved the Headwoman was taking
charge of the situation. "Does this mean I'm can have baby now?" she
asked.
"You can," said Jylanya carefully. "But you'd need to have help from a
man before you can. That's one of the reasons the boys and girls have
separate dormitories. No babies til you're grown." She handed her the
supplies and some clean panties. "Take these in there and wash up then
put on the clean panties and we can talk more."
"Okay," Milga said and rushed to do as she was bid.
As she waited for the girl to return she made a mental note to talk to
the Hallmaster about that part of the apprentices education. The poor
girl had to have been shaken to her core to have come to her like
that.
Milga wasn't away for long, just long enough to change, quick wash and
take the clothes to the laundry. She returned to the Headwoman. Her
stomach still hurt.
While the girl was gone cleaning up Jylanya had gone quickly to the
kitchen for some hot water. Now she was back and had some tea steeping
in a small pot. As an afterthought she mashed a couple of mint leaves
and added them to the pot.
She sat at the table and invited the girl to join her. "How are you feeling?"
"Better, but my stomach still hurts. I didn't know being woman hurts,"
Milga replied. She was still bit subdued but at least she wasn't as
upset as she had been.
"Well," she began. "Sometimes it does, but this will help with what
you're feeling now." She smiled at the girl. "I'm sorry you didn't
know about this Milga, but it is normal and should happen for a few
days each month. You'll need supplies but I'll help you with that."
Jylanya picked up the small pot of tea and poured a cup for the girl.
"This is a special tea with Meadowsweet and Willow Salic to help
reduce the pain. I added a little mint for flavor." It wasn't a nasty
concoction but it probably wasn't something the girl was used to.
Milga nodded. She was familiar with both ingredients. She sipped
carefully the hot drink. "My stepmother should have taken care that I
knew all that," she said with a bitter tone.
"You're right Milga," she said firmly. "You should have been told. But
in the future if you have any questions, you can come to me alright?"
"Yes, ma'am," Milga replied with a faint trace of smile.
