Devyn frowned at her dragon, arms crossed over her chest, and feet
spread as if to do battle. Ellyth was lying on her weyrledge, head
lowered to the ground and her eyes whirling a fierce reddish-orange,
tinged with grey. For the past couple of days the green had been
complaining about a pain coming from her mouth, and the more she
complained the more Devyn insisted that they go to the dragonhealers
and let them give Ellyth a once-over. Ellyth, for whatever reason,
refused to be cooperative on the issue. Maybe it had something to do
with Devyn's own aversion to seeing healers.

"If you don't talk to Branth then I'll go see W'ser myself." Devyn
insisted, finding that having the Weyrdragonhealer as a wingmate came
in handy during these types of situations. She also wasn't sure she
trusted a journeyman in this instance, only because Ellyth was so
incredibly touchy about having someone look at her.

}:Fine,:{ Ellyth humphed, }:but I'm not happy.:{

**No kidding.** Devyn thought to herself as she turned away from her
dragon and looked out from the weyrledge.

}:Branth, would your rider please come up? I'm having pain in my mouth
and my rider insists that yours must come and see.:{ The green
mellowed her tone to a much more pleasant ring when speaking to the
brown dragon.

In his office, W'ser wasn't doing anything incredibly important, just
sifting through some hides that he enjoyed studying when Branth
suddenly broke into his thoughts.

}:Green Ellyth, of Devyn, requests our presence. There's apparently
some pain in her mouth.:{ Branth reported dutifully to his rider.

The Weyrdragonhealer fought a smile at his dragon's report. It was
always interesting to hear how the dragons phrased what was happening
with their bodies since they didn't use quite the same terminology as
humans.

}:Ellyth is very finicky and is not happy at the prospect of having a
dragonhealer see her. That is why her rider requests you come.:{
Branth also filled in.

**Tell them I'm on my way.**

Devyn smiled when she saw a familiar brown dragon in the air, heading
directly towards their ledge. Stepping back, she waited while Branth
hovered down to a soft landing. W'ser made a graceful leap down, and
Devyn had to admire that the man was in such good shape. It was a
shame that the Weyrdragonhealer was single, he really was a nice
looking man, and nice to boot.

"Thanks for coming."

"It's no trouble. What seems to be the problem?"

Devyn led the man over to where Ellyth laid, "I think it's a tooth. It
seems to be chipped off pretty deep."

W'ser approached Ellyth with a respectful bow, it wasn't only Queen's
that enjoyed being treated like royalty after all, "Ellyth, would you
please be so kind as to open your mouth for me so I can see inside?"

There was a moment's hesitation before an encouraging croon from
Branth had Ellyth prying open her large, powerful jaws. W'ser set his
satchel of supplies and tools aside and peered into the dragon's
cavernous mouth. Sharp teeth, used for hunting, lined the front of the
green's mouth, and powerful back molars, used for chewing firestone,
were set in the back. The problem was immediately obvious, just as
Devyn had indicated one of the front teeth had been broken off to the
point that it's delicate core was visible. There was no help but to
pull the tooth.

Inwardly W'ser wanted to groan, there was nothing more painstaking, or
laborious, than pulling a dragon's tooth. It wasn't like the quick
crack and pull it took to take out a human's tooth, no, this took
quite a bit of muscle and elbow grease.

"The tooth has to go. Let me just get the gum numbed up and I'll get
it out of there."

--

A candlemark later, W'ser's back was drenched in sweat, and Ellyth was
making threatening sounds, but at least the tooth was out and
everything was good to go, "It'll stay sore for a bit, just keep
numbweed on it when she allows. After that the teeth will eventually
reset themselves and you won't even notice that it's gone."

Devyn smiled and put a hand to W'ser's shoulder, "Thank you, W'ser, I
really appreciate you coming up here and helping out. I feel like I
need to do something in repayment for your hard work."

W'ser waved his hand, "It's my craft after all."

"Still, how about lunch sometime? I promise that I'll provide
stimulating conversation." She grinned.

With a laugh, the Weyrdragonhealer conceded, "Allright then, whenever
you want just contact Branth. Have a good evening, Devyn, I'll see you
at drills."

Stepping away once again, Devyn watched as the dragonhealer left, and
then shook her head as she turned back to her dragon. Who ever heard
of a dragon having a tooth pulled?
