J'darin

"It's time to graduate a class of weyrlings again," G'nir said when J'darin
came to his office. The Weyrleader had klah ready for them and he gestured
the Weyrlingmaster to take a seat.
"And a rowdy, crazy bunch of rascals we have here, too." He nodded to the
Weyrleader, still not sure how they stood, and also, all too aware that his
heavier drinking lately had no doubt gotten back to G'nir in some form or
fashion.

He took the klah, gladly, though, and promised himself that for once, he
would get through it without wanting something stronger. At least until
they got to _her_.

Pulling out his own hides, he stacked them neatly, ready for discussion.
His work habits had not suffered, though his head - and his dragon - had in
some ways.

"Shall we begin with K'ale? A fine young brownrider, if I say so myself. "

"Yes, he is. And since his father is Cyan's wing second, I'll take him to
Azure wing. Let's see if he has the same potential than his father," G'nir
replied, making notes as he spoke.
That was as expected. They went through a couple of greens, both men, and
then one blue, then he pulled J'nor and S'vin's hides. Both blueriders,
but different strokes of rider.
"Here is S'vin. A rather happy-go-lucky fellow, but he was very often in
trouble during his weyrling-hood. Kadeth is small and fast, though, so
that may be a good trait. What would you like to do with him?"
"Hmm, the Queen's wing could use some ablebodied riders and dragons to
counter all those injured and recovering ones. However, didn't this blue
show some promise for Searches?" G'nir pondered. It could be useful to pair
the blue with one of the more experienced Search dragons. If the blue
really had that apptitude, it could be a benefit.

"Well, why not place him in the queen's wing until we find if he does have
Search aptitude? They can use the help and if we find they are a Search
pair, they might be too valuable to risk in a regular fighting Wing." He
left that for G'nir to decide and moved on to J'nor. "J'nor, here, is a
good solid bluerider. He takes correction well and his blue is on the
larger scale. He will make a fine addition to any fighting Wing."

"Cyan," G'nir said after moment of thought and wrote the wing's name after
J'nor's name. He couldn't take all the good riders to his own wing, as much
as he liked. Fair was fair and he was staying as objective and neutral as
possible.

J'darin nodded in understanding. Cyan would appreciate getting their own
share of good weyrlings.

"Next is G'wen, a greenrider. He was injured severely during the Blooding
as I'm sure you know, and he is not fit for a fighting wing yet. He can
stay in the Weyrling wing for now and help with the new class, if thats
alright with you. He'd be good with the kiddoes."

He waited to see what G'nir would say before bringing up the one he was not
looking forward to seeing fight Thread for real - Cardella.

"Well, I have the healer's report, and they recommend weyrling wing too.
So, he'll be weyrling staff's assistant," G'nir said. "That greenrider has
ended up in too many reports," he snorted.

He pulled another file out reluctantly. "This is Cardella. She is one
of the finest young riders I've ever trained, albeit she rides green. I
foresee great things for her in the future. She is more than ready for
her place in the fighting Wings. I would suggest Cyan for her if J'nev was
not also in Cyan. You will need to take her into Azure." He glanced up
at G'nir, determined to say nothing else about the subject even if the man
asked him.

"Azure then," G'nir was taking J'darin's advice and not really interested
in why's. If he said she was a good rider, he trusted his word.

"So, we have a very good balance of blues and greens. Could use more
bronzes but that's not for us to decide," G'nir said as a general remark
when he looked the final list of wing assignments.

J'darin nodded in agreement. "We certainly do,, though, remember...,
Teseada's Onnyth Hatched 3 bronzes." He said, and not without a hint of
pardonable pride. After all, Hasaarth had sired that Clutch. "So we have
3 likely lads coming up in this next group. That's good."

They went through a few more placements, then he pulled one more file out.

"Last one... Aynia. Another female greenrider. No special family
relations, and a good all around green. Pretty, too." he added with a
faint grin. But _not_ Cardella.

"Shall we place her into Cyan, since Cardella went to Azure? They could
probably use anothers solid green, and 18 turns, so not quite a baby."

"Yes, that's good place for her." G'nir said and viewed over his list. "Was
she the last one?" He was quite happy with the outcome. This class did
have more of the older weyrlings and he felt they had managed to assign
them fairly.

"Yes, thats the lot, Weyrleader. Thank you, G'nir. They're a good lot that
survived some tough times, and that will make them better dragonriders."
J'darin nodded amiably to G'nir, scooped all of his hides and headed back
out to inform the younglings of their future. That was one duty he did
enjoy.
