"Hey, Tavia, are you in?" Sh'dori called and knocked the weyr's door.
"I came bearing gifts!" Indeed, he had large stuffed toy tugged under
his arm and small basket on other hand.
"Come in Sh'dori," she called. She recognized his voice and smiled.
His lifemate had won Sawauth's last flight and they'd become friendly.
Sh'dori pushed the door open and came in. "Hi there, sweetheart. How
are you doing?"
"Fine as can be," she smiled. "What do you have there?"
"Let's see..." Sh'dori said. "This is for the baby..." he gave her the
stuffed toy, "and this is for you."
He handed her the basket, filled with fresh fruits, pastries and
flowers. He had plenty of experience in pregnant women and knew what
they liked.
"Oh Sh'dori!" She accepted the toy and basket and a giant smile. "You
didn't have to do this." But she wasn't about to give them back. She
picked up the flowers and closed her eyes to take a long breath.
"These are so lovely."
"You're welcome," Sh'dori said with wide smile on his face. Her
obvious joy was pleasing him.
Tavia grinned. "How is that handsome Rahmuth doing? Sawauth was
sunning with him the other day. " She pulled a piece of citrus fruit
from the basket and began to peel it.
"He's fine, as smug as brown can be," Sh'dori grinned.
"Well she still really likes him. Of course she's always been a bit
partial to brown." Most of Sawauth's flights over the turns had been
won by brownriders. Which usually meant energetic riders who knew how
to please a woman. So, she looked forward to her flights.
"Well, Rahmuth likes every green he meets," Sh'dori smiled.
"So, how are you feeling? The little one making you uncomfortable
yet?" he asked and gave her expanded waist a curious look. "Look's
like you're close to birth now."
"I'm sure he is," she smiled. Then considered the rest of his
question. "Yes, Vandor tells me I'm almost there. I'm thankful too,
right now I just feel tired all the time." She popped a section of the
fruit into her mouth. "Yumm."
"You just wait, the best part is yet to come," Sh'dori's eyes twinkled
teasingly. "Or so I've been told. And then I've been told to go
/between/ for making her go thru the birth-ordeal."
Tavia laughed. "I'm sure you have. Well I've attended to enough births
that I don't have any illusions," she smiled up at him. "And this time
you're off the hook."
"Well, I don't know if that's good thing or bad," Sh'dori replied. He
still kind of hoped that the baby was his.
She gave him a beautiful smile. "If it were anyone else I'd love it to
have been yours Sh'dori. But I'm really sure it's U'kaiah." She gave
his hand a squeeze.
"Well, You're the mom, you're the one who should know it," Sh'dori
replied and squeezed her hand back. "Just remember that I'm your
friend."
"Always," she smiled.
