Himarth stood on his hind legs and flapped his wings with all he had.
A cloud of dust blew up behind him and covered his lifemate from head
to toe. **Thanks for that** He crossed his arms and tried to act
cross but how could he? Just looking at his little blue made his
heart swell in joy. Catching the eye of a weyrling beside him, he
just grinned and shrugged his shoulders.

An equally dusty K'dee grinned back. "Wait until they are fully grown!"

"This is already unreal enough," A'shel said in a dreamy voice.
Impressing was beyond anything he_ever_thought he'd do, but the
thought of fighting Thread? He just couldn't fathom it right yet.

"Tell me about it," K'dee glanced around to see if the Weyrlingmaster was
still watching them closely. "My parents had just about decided that nobody
was going to follow Da into the skies."

"Yeah? Is your da a rider as well?" A'shel never knew his father;
the man had left him and his mother when he was still a babe, leaving
them drudges in a harsh holding. He shuddered just thinking about the
place. Thankfully Himarth was too busy flapping his wings to notice
the slight fear that had crept into his lifemate's heart.

"Da's a brownrider," K'dee explained. "Ma's a crafter, and you might have
met my brother and sister in candidate classes."

"Maybe not, I wasn't a candidate." A'shel blushed at that, as his
Impression was the one that had stood out from the others, just
because of the way it had happened.

"Looks like someone had other ideas for you," K'dee pointed to the blue, who
still seemed to be flapping wings as vigorously as his own Vatonth.

At that A'shel's blush deepened and he ducked his head. "I never
would have thought something like this would have happened to me this
time last turn. Ever since I came to the Weyr it's all been a dream,
a wonderful dream."

"Well it's all too real when they wake you up first thing and need mucking
out," K'dee commented.

"Oh, I don't mind," A'shel quickly answered. "It's better than an
entire stable full of runner beasts." He used to have to muck out the
stables when he was a drudge. And then help his mum clean the entire
Hold proper. And then clean the dishes in the kitchen and help with
the dinner. No, one small Himarth was nothing compared to that.
Sensing the love coming his way, the slender blue stopped his exercise
and crooned happily at his lifemate. }:I'm so glad I found you!:{
A'shel tried to swallow the lump in his throat. **I'm so glad you
found me too!** He leaned down to caress the blue's headknobs and
cover up his tears of happiness.

"I suppose, although wait until he gets his tail in your boot and you find
that in the morning!"

"I still wouldn't mind," A'shel smiled.

"It'll be worth it in the end, all this getting dusty and cleaning up after
them."

"It's already worth it all."

K'dee grinned. "It sure is."

"My name's A'shel by the way." He held out his hand in friendship.

"K'dee," said the young bronzerider as he held out his hand in turn.

"Nice to meet you." A'shel smiled and then turned his head at the
sound of one of the assistants. "Sounds like they've found something
new for us to do."

"Looks that way," agreed K'dee. "We can talk more later?"

"Of course!" A'shel smiled, happy with the thought of a new friend.
