"Hello, Weyrwoman," D'ren said as he entered her office. He'd heard
plenty of rumors about her, and seen her at Hatchings, but this was
the first time he'd met Rhosyn. He was curious to find out what she
was really like.
She stood when he came in. This was a working day, not a flying day
so she wasn't in her leathers. Rhosyn was instead in a pair of shorts
and a tank top. "Welcome to River Bluff. D'ren is it?" There was a smile
on her face since she was overjoyed that they had another healthy bronze
in the Weyr.
"Yes ma'am." He thought her choice of clothing was a little odd, but
only a little. People sometimes wore less at Dolphin Cove.
"I'm sure you've already seen the Weyrleader and the Headwoman
and gotten all that out of the way. I just wanted to introduce myself
and meet you. Glad to have young healthy bronzes around. How are
you finding things?" She gestured for him to have a seat if he wanted
to. There was water on the corner of the desk which she also offered.
D'ren took the offered seat. "River Bluff seems nice so far. Menanth
likes our weyr, it's bigger than our last one."
"And it has lights," she added, knowing how Dolphin Cove was. "Very
useful and saves us having to run out and collect glows all the time."
"That's going to be a nice change, being able to flip a switch instead
of covering and uncovering glow baskets. And I have my own bathing
room," he smiled. That was a very nice change.
That was one thing about River Bluff that Rhosyn had taken to at the start.
She loved her creature comforts. "Aye comes in very handy, I daresay."
Smiling, the Weyrwoman wondered just what D'ren was like. "So, tell
me about yourself. Where were you born?"
"A little hold in Emerald Falls territory. I apprenticed at the Harper
Hall, and that's where I was Searched from." Which reminded him it'd
been a while since he visited his family.
"Oh, do you play or anything then?" She immediately started to think about
Jaylene and her band of brothers.
"I play a little gitar, and I sing. If I'd stayed a Harper, I wanted
to be a composer." Now it would have to stay a hobby, but that was
okay.
"We have another here-a rider-who writes songs. You might want to meet
him. R'masu is his name." Rhosyn thought that would be a good start for
the young man.
"R'masu," D'ren repeated, a good way to remember names. "I'll be sure
to look for him."
"Have you ever been here before or is this the first time?" Of course most
riders went to other hatchings so it was quite normal for that to happen or
if they had friends who had transferred.
"I've been here a few times on message duty, and I was just here
delivering supplies after that string of hurricanes." Despite the
circumstances, that was when he'd decided to transfer. River Bluff had
similar weather to Dolphin Cove, but it was nearly on the other side
of the continent. Far enough away for him to have a fresh start.
Thinking about the damage everything had done, Rhosyn was proud that
they had gotten the Weyr back into shape so quickly. Solieira was valuable
beyond measure. "Yeah things looked rough there for a bit, but we got
it back into shape."
"It's a very nice place."
"Thanks. Took a bit of getting used to for me, but I like it. I'll let
you get on but you know where I am and I'm glad to meet you." She was
more than glad. **Thank you FARANTH**
"It was nice to meet you, Weyrwoman." She didn't seem as wild as some
of the rumors said, but maybe she was just on her best behavior. "I
hope River Bluff soon becomes a true home for me."
She watched him go and sat back in her chair. If she could only figure
a way to get more transfers like that in. If only...
