Description: Tavia has a visit from her friend
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 25 of Turn 6
The head woman had told her that her meals would be delivered to her
room from now until after the baby was born. She'd been patient but
was getting hungry and no lunch had arrived yet. Tavia had done all
the straitening and folding of baby clothes she could. She'd cleaned
everything she could reach. In fact her weyr was spotless so she sat
down at the table next to where Glory slept and watched the little
golden beauty nap.
She thought about going to the records room to see if she could find a
Harper tale to read to pass the time but she didn't want to miss the
food delivery.
"Hello!" Ranari's breezy voice carried through the door. "You in m'dear?"
"I'm here," she called. She didn't want to heave her bulk up out of
the chair again, not when she'd just got comfortable.
"You'd better be...." Ranari said as she walked in, loaded down with a
tray of food. She slid it down on the table by her friend before
poring her a drink of fruit juice. "You look like you could use
this."
"Boy could I," she smiled. The baby chose that moment to kick her in
the ribs and roll from one side to the other. "Oh my goodness," she
grinned and grabbed her friend's hand. "Feel that!"
"Whow! He--or she--is going to be a strong one! Just like their
mum." She winked and leaned over to tuck a napkin into Tavia's lap.
"There you go, mum, now eat!"
Tavia reached for a meat roll and took a bite. "Mmm," she smiled.
Taking the small plate she set it on top of her rounded belly.
"Perfect table."
"Not for long." Ranari winked at her as she settled down with a low
groan. "Long day," was her explanation.
She laughed "I'll miss it when it goes away." Truly it put the plate
right at a good height to scoop food easily into her mouth. "Yeah?"
She responded to Ranari's tiredness.
"The kids are being a bit crazy right now. All they can think about
are Elleth's eggs hatching. Ignored the poor new harper, poor dab."
The wicked smile on her face as at odds with the sympathetic words.
"Oh?" Tavia turned a concerned look on her friend. "Are you sure you
have the room for the new baby?"
"Of course dear!" Ranari leaned forward to pat her on the hand.
"These are the children in the kitchens! Not my fosterlings!" No,
those three were much better behaved. "All little Kalla can think of
is the new baby. She's the only girl in the entire Weyr_not_excited
by the eggs."
"Oh," she smiled very relieved. "I'm glad." Tavia shook her head the
tiny 4 turn old girl was so precious and a very happy child. She'd
make at good big sister.
"How about you finish that food and go take a nice long bath and then
I'll give you a back and leg massage after. Sound good?" The older
woman smiled, knowing just how tired her friend had to be.
"Sounds absolutely wonderful," she smiled and dug into the meal.
