K'mai

K'mai

K'mai sauntered into the bathing cavern and looked around for a good
spot. He saw a few friends and considered joining him, but then his
gaze settled on a boy bathing all alone. K'mai figured he would
introduce himself and give the boy some company. He quickly undressed
and slid in next to the boy, who was sort of cute. "Hello."

Angshel froze when not only did the handsome rider splash in beside
him but he also spoke, to him! He glanced about to make sure it was
him he was greeting, and not someone else. It wasn't.

Damn.

"H-h-hello?"

"I'm K'mai, rider of Sebeth. I hope you don't mind me joining you."
The boy looked nervous. Hold or hallbred then?

"No, go on." Angshel remembered what Rhosyn had told him and took a
deep breath. If he wanted the chance to Stand then sitting in the
pools with another man was going to be the least of his problems.

"So what's your name?" K'mai asked as he reached for some sweetsand.

Okay...okay, he could do this. Taking a deep breath, Angshel told him
his name and added, "what colour is Sebeth then?"

"Blue. A very handsome blue, but I'm biased of course."

Angshel smiled. "Oh, I dunno. I rather like the blues the best as well."

"Just an admirer, or do you want one of your own?" K'mai asked as he
scrubbed himself.

"Just an admirer for now." He didn't want to say he wasn't going to
be allowed to Stand. It was too embarrassing.

"For now? Trying to get used to weyrlife first?" K'mai ducked a little
to rinse off.

"Something like that." He didn't want to tell yet another person what
had happened to him. It just got tiring, all this having to re-tell
and be punished for what had happened to him, that day in the woods.

K'mai reached for the sweetsand again and lathered his hair. "So since
you're not a Candidate, what do you do?"

"I'm an apprentice at the Dragonhealers."

"Ah, a dragonhealer. You know you need a dragon to make journeyman."
The boy had to know that, but he couldn't help pointing it out.

"Well, I just started out so I won't be anywhere near being made
Journeyman anytime soon." There, maybe that answer would stop him
from probing nay deeper.

"You should still Stand as many times as you can. Give yourself more chances."

"I'd like to..how many times did you Stand before you Impress?" The
boy wanted nothing more than to take the attention off of him and why
he wasn't Standing.

K'mai shifted against the side to get more comfortable. "Oh shards ...
four or five times. I Stood for two turns before Sebeth found me."

"Really? We're you ready to give up?"

"Not yet. I probably would've Stood until they kicked me out."

Angshel nodded at that. "Y'gel is going to start wondering where I
am. It was nice meeting you." There, he had gotten through that
without passing out from fear or nerves.

"Nice meeting you too."
