Description: D'arvn gives Roana something to consider
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 10 of Turn 6
Roana stifled a yawn as she made her way into the dining hall for
breakfast, sending a sleepy wave at a brownrider who greeted her while
headed in the opposite direction. That was a new, positive side effect
of her transfer from Queen's into Torrent Wing - she was actually
meeting people and making some friends rather than being some
anonymous greenrider to everyone.
After filling her plate, she glanced around, looking for company.
There was no way J'klin would be here this early, but some of her
wingmates were, surely? She spotted a somewhat familiar head of blonde
hair down the way and wound through the tables in that direction.
"Hey, D'ar-" her greeting was cut short by another yawn. "Oof, excuse
me. Good morning, D'arvn. Mind if I sit here?"
The blond rider looked up at the greenrider as she seemed to open her
mouth to an interesting degree. He smirked then felt a little guilty.
"Late night?" he asked as he waved her into the seat.
She flushed, catching the innuendo. "I can only wish," Roana grumbled.
"The only person I want in my bed is avoiding me at the moment, so I
was sadly alone with my insomnia last night. Plus I'm still adjusting
to the earlier drills - Queen's Wing usually has theirs later in the
morning."
"Here," he said lifting the pot of klah and pouring some into a clean
mug. "You probably need some of this." He could understand how it was,
U'das ran a tight wing. "I've spent a time in the queens wing before."
He didn't add it was his own stupid fault for trying some silly
aerobatics trying to outfly his weyrmate's green.
"I spent turns there at Dragonsfall, so they automatically assigned me
there when I transferred," Roana said, gratefully taking the full mug
and curling her fingers around its warmth. After a deep sniff of the
contents, she continued, "I never realized how much it isolated me
from everyone in the upper wings until I got here."
"Oh? You're from Dragonsfall? I have some friends there. I run
messages and some cargo once a sevenday." He didn't mention that he
liked to play there instead of at his home Weyr. That way he didn't
embarrass or distress his weyrmate and he could still have a little
fun on the side.
Roana nodded, wincing as the hot klah stung her tongue. "Yeah, I
impressed there. Never really expected to leave, but I got stuck in a
rut and had to get out." River Bluff was actually turning out to be a
pretty nice replacement - she liked it more than she had expected.
"Who're your friends? Be interesting to see if we have any in common."
He named off a few that didn't seem to strike a bell. "I've been
hanging out with weyrlings recently. So... what do you like to do in
your off time?"
"Depends on my mood," Roana admitted. "Some nights I want company and
to be a party girl, other times I'd rather be in my weyr with a friend
or two, just relaxing."
"I know the feeling. Though with my dear U'fouinn to come home to I'm
assured of a nice relaxing evening. I don't seem to need to party as
much as I used to."
Roana smiled at the other rider, "I'd probably be the same way if I
was weyrmated. Unfortunately, the only person I'd want to take on that
role right now is dealing with some personal issues, and consequently
unavailable for anything more than friendship right now."
"Oh well that's too bad," D'arvn could sympathize with her on that
score. "I'm sure we'd love to have you over some time if you're
feeling a bit lonely. U'fouinn puts out a very nice meal," he winked
"and he's very entertaining. Maybe a little friendly dragon poker?"
The greenrider thought about it. Faranth knew she hadn't made many
friends since arriving at River Bluff a few months ago, but this would
be a good start. "I haven't played dragon poker in ages. I'm probably
rusty."

D'arvn chuckled, "That's ok, I'm terrible. Though I am pretty good at
other things." He waggled his eyebrows at her.
"I'm rusty at those, too," Roana chuckled. "Transferring has utterly
changed my lifestyle. It's different when you don't know a lot of
people."
"Awww," he said. "Well, I'll have to come over to your weyr and see
what you have. Then we can pick out something for the gather or I can
make something. I'm a weaver you know." he winked. He'd filed away the
other information he didn't want to seem to pounce on her but she
seemed like a nice sort for a good solid friendship.
Roana didn't know if she was relieved that he wasn't flirting with her
or not. Besides, he had a weyrmate, and she had J'klin... wherever
that was going. "I can tell you now, I don't have much, but I don't
know if going out and catching a man is what I want to do anyway.
J'klin would never forgive me."
"Oh honey," he grinned. "Trust me, you can always throw them back
after you catch them." That was his way of dealing with his own
occasional wandering eye. He was just discreet about it. He never
flaunted his other activity where U'fouinn would be upset by it.
"Oh, I know, but... our history makes that somewhat difficult," she
said, but something in her voice sounded intrigued by the thought. Who
knew how long it would be before her brownrider was ready for anything
more than friendship, Phiralith wasn't due to rise again for ages, and
a girl had needs, scorch it!
"That's too bad," he said. It wasn't his normal preference but he
found he liked Roana she was different than most of the females of his
acquaintance. He didn't think she'd get all clingy especially since
she seemed to have a thing with someone else. "But if your brownrider
doesn't come around soon and you just want to blow off some steam...
look me up." He smiled with a genuine helpful way.
Roana looked taken aback for a moment, and then considering. It wasn't
her style to be unfaithful, but... "I may have to take you up on that.
But... wait. Your weyrmate will be okay with it?"
"We're dragon riders Roana," he said gently. "we love each other but
have never promised exclusivity. Why would we want to put artificial
boundaries on ones we love, especially when we know they can't be
kept. If U'fouinn finds someone who can give him some pleasure or if
someone else wins his flight, I'm alright with that. Because I know
that at the end of the day, he'll come home. When he cries, it's in my
arms. But, if you have any issue with that... that's ok too. It was
just a friendly offer." He smiled.
"No, I know people have a variety of 'understandings' with their
partners, I just wasn't sure what yours was. I would hate to be the
cause of friction between the two of you, that's all," the greenrider
said with a sheepish smile. "I'd rather ask now than find out later,
you know?"
He nodded, "Of course!" He didn't usually ask questions but then he
was a guy. He found that most women were more complicated that he
could hope to understand and U'fouinn was much more of a woman than he
would ever be.
She had a feeling he thought she was over-thinking it, but that was
just how Roana did things. "I'll think about it and let you know. In
the meantime, how about giving me the dirt on our wing? What do I need
to know that U'das or J'ren wouldn't tell me?"
