S'yei sighed as he ran his fingers through his short brown hair and
tousled it to help it dry a little faster. The man was rarely late for
anything, but of course he was this morning. Turning a corner, S'yei
let out grunt as the breath whooshed from his chest. Instinctively
S'yei reached out to catch the woman that he had crashed into, and
when he looked down he was stunned to be looking into Weyrwoman
Rhosyn's hazel eyes, "My apologies, Weyrwoman."

So this was the woman that E'rae had been telling him about. This was
the first time that S'yei had ever been so close to her in person.

She looked back up at him, recognition not occurring. Rhosyn checked
his knots and saw that he was in K'sedel's wing. With Orlaith about to
clutch any day now, she was grounded since the gold was too heavy to
get up in the sky. "Who are you?"

S'yei wasn't sure why but he felt a little.. intimidated by the woman.
The bluerider could feel Yalith's amusement at his rider's discomfort,
"Bluerider S'yei, ma'am." He responded in his most respectful tone.

"I haven't seen you. Where did you come from?" She was trying to place
him, but Rhosyn hadn't traveled much before coming to River Bluff.

"I transferred from Dragonsfall nearly a month ago," S'yei answered as
he tried to recall all of the things that E'rae had told him about the
fairly new River Bluff Weyrwoman.

"Dragonsfall? Oh! Well then you must be burning to death too!" She was
just getting used to the heat, but it still wasn't something she embraced
about her new home.

S'yei had to admit that getting used to the heat was the most difficult
thing about River Bluff. "Yeah, I have to admit that I had heard about
the heat but I'd always assumed people were just exaggerating. They
weren't." He smiled a little, starting to get over his initial fright
of running into the Weyrwoman.

"I compensate by wearing as light or little clothing as possible. However,
on days when I have to do flight gear, it's awful. So when did you come?"
She gestured for him to walk with her, heedless of the fact he might have
somewhere to go.

Deciding that following the Weyrwoman was far more important than this
previous engagement, S'yei fell into step beside of Rhosyn. "I arrived
here at the end of the second sevenday last month."

"Ah so not that long and already in the Weyrleader's Wing. You must be
good. Me, I don't have to worry about flight gear right now, which is good."
Rhosyn would be stuck for a bit, but she was used to it.

S'yei told himself not to swell with _too_ much pride over the
Weyrwoman's compliment. "Yes well, with my age I guess they figure I
have the experience necessary for the Weyrleader's Wing," he told
Rhosyn as they walked. "I'd heard that Orlaith is egg heavy."

"Aye, she'll clutch any day now. My second at River Bluff, both with Nikornath."
Rhosyn nodded to some of the riders they passed. "We'll have plenty of
weyrlings, which is good."

"Hatchings are always exciting for the Weyr," S'yei said by way of
agreement. He certainly enjoyed attending them and things were always
aflutter around the Weyr when new weyrlings were about. Personally,
S'yei enjoyed weyrlings the most because of their pranks. He'd seen
some good ones in his time and looked forward to more.

"Aye and they mean seeing people I haven't seen in some time. I love to
visit." Of course she was thinking of how she'd follow up her last hatching
performance. Rhosyn couldn't pull off another fashion like that.

S'yei's mind immediately went to the towel story he'd heard from E'rae
and he grinned- a lively Weyrwoman indeed. "Yes, I, uh, heard about
the last Hatching you attended."

"Oh, what did you hear?" She knew there had been gossip but most of it
never reached her ears.

"That you set quite a fashion trend, and with a towel no less." S'yei
recounted what he had heard through the Weyr gossip, via Yalith of
course.

"It was more than a towel, thank you very much. Too bad the dress was
ruined. Not that I would wear it again I don't think." Rhosyn sighed on Briata's
behalf. "Got myself into trouble last time. So I guess I have to figure out
something else."

"Trouble or not, it certainly seemed to liven things up," S'yei said
around a smile at the Weyrwoman's denial of the dress being more than
a towel.

"Apparently I have a talent for that. If only I had a four piece harper band to
accompany me at all times," she snorted, the sarcasm making her grin.

S'yei chuckled, "I'm sure that could be arranged."

"More than likely, but it'd be a pain when I'm in the middle of
drills." She pictured big drums drowning out her orders.

"But," S'yei lifted a hand, "they could come in handy when you're
being romantic. Talk about setting the atmosphere." He smiled while
imagining.

"Well, I don't really have to..worry about that." She had enough
atmosphere usually. "Allright I seem to be where I'm going. It was
nice to meet you. Welcome to River Bluff." Rhosyn remembered
he had seemed to be going somewhere.

S'yei seemed to remember at that moment that he was late, incredibly
late, but hopefully the excuse of talking to the Weyrwoman would save
him this time. "It was nice talking with you Weyrwoman," the bluerider
gave a polite bow before hurrying off.
