Close Call!

Writers: Len, Chelle
Date Posted: 2nd August 2011

Characters: A'shel, Rhosyn
Description: Poor Angshel has the misfortune of running into a proddy Rhosyn
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 1 of Turn 6

Angshel looked up, alarmed when he saw the Weyrwoman bearing down on
him. Everyone had said she was proddy lately. He wasn't sure how bad
that would be with a queen, but if some of the greens who came through
the infirmary were any indication, then she wouldn't be pleasant to be
around! Quickly he looked around for a place to retreat to.

She had been roaming the tunnels all morning. For some reason, she couldn't
stop herself. She just kept walking. It meant she got a lot done, but then she
was left just walking again. And then she'd seen him. "Angshel, what are you
doing?"

"I was just going to class..." His voice got smaller and lower with each word,
as he quailed under her look.

"What sort of class?" She frowned, looking at him.

"Uh...dragon anatomy...ma'am." His eyes widened at her tone of voice.
He felt very much like a herdbeast about to be pounced on by a dragon.

"You haven't had that class yet?" she asked with incredulity. That was one
of the basics and he had already been apprenticing for some months.

"Yes, but it's an on-going class...?" Surely she had to know that every course
took months, if not turns to get through? His eyes started darting about for an
escape.

"Angshel, I hope you're paying attention. Do not waste your time. You can learn
as fast as you want to learn. Just because the class lasts for nine
months doesn't mean it needs to take you nine months to get through
it. Be better
than that," she urged, grabbing him on the shoulder.

"But I am!" Didn't she understand that a course just didn't take a
few sevendays to get through? Already he was far ahead of the boys
who had come in before him. What more did she demand of him?

"Well good. Hurry up then or you're going to be late." Rhosyn watched him,
thinking.

The boy nodded and stood, mouth gaping open at the Weyrwoman. She
had never so much as snapped at him before and he was unsure what to
do.

"Go! Time's ticking..." she urged again.

"Yes...ma'am!" At that he all but ran from her, breathing out a sigh
of relief when he rounded a corner, out of her sight. That was a close call!
