Teseada

Teseada

Eirath was just nodding off on his ledge when he saw a beautiful gold
shape coming his way. }:We have company,:{ he told his lifemate as he
moved aside to allow Onnyth to land. L'fael sat up in his bed,
wondering who was coming to see him. He didn't have that many friends
here in this Weyr and the ones he did have, had already come to see
him.

Teseada dismounted, calling out as she did. "L'fael, you decent?"

"Kind of," he yelled back, looking in dismay at himself still in his
bed clothes and the state of his weyr. Since he had been Scored he
hadn't been up to doing much, but being that this was a weyrwoman he
still felt shabby for her.

"So it's safe to come in then?"

"Kind of..."

"Should I give you a minute?" she asked.

"No, it's okay, I'm covered up." He just couldn't get out of his bed
clothes in any hurry, so he had to stay in them.

She came into the main weyr. "Are you managing?" she said as she looked him
up and down in his sleeping clothes. That and the state of his weyr.

He quelled under that look. "I could be better, but you know..."

"Do you want a hand clearing up a little?"

"Oh, you're a weyrwoman, you shouldn't be cleaning up after some idiot
of a brownrider who can't duck quick enough!" None the less, he did
slide out of bed and put on a robe, to stop her in case she took it to
do just that.

"I don't mind, really," she said as she bent to scoop up a handful of
clothes. "Where's your laundry hamper?"

"You don't but I do." He held out his right arm to take the dirty
clothes. The left was still in its sling, as the shoulder muscle had
been cut open when he had been scored. "Please, sit down, let me get
you a cup of klah." If any of his bronze riding mates ever heard that
one of the gold riders were trying to pick up his clothes, he'd never
hear the end of it.

"Well if you take this lot, at least let me hold the hamper open, you need
two hands for that." That she was insistent about.

"Okay..but only if you sit down, okay?" He nodded to the hamper that
was buried under dirty clothes and went a bit pink in embarrassment
at the state of it.

"You need some help here," she said as she lifted the lid off the hamper.
"Let me have a word with the headwoman and I'm sure she'll find someone to
come and help you here."

"Okay." Anything to make her stop. He indicated the couch for her to
sit in it, whilst he walked over and prodded the fire to make some
klah.

"Just a small bit if sweetener in there," she said.

"Erm..okay." He looked about for the sweetener, until he found it
under a hand towel. Hoping she didn't notice, he fixed her cup and
handed it to her before sitting back down himself.

"Aren't you going to have one?" she asked. "It's not much fun alone."

He gave her an uncomfortable look before getting back up and making
himself one as well. It was easier than telling her the reason he
didn't make one was he didn't fancy the long walk down to the toilets
in a candlemark. His score had given him an infection and that had
taken all his energy with it.

"What did the healers say? About your arm."

"Infection in the wound. So it's not healing as fast as it should
be." He looked at her and wanted to shrug his shoulders, if it
wouldn't hurt so bloody much.

"I hope they've got some tea, or a poultice for it."

He nodded to the one clean area of his weyr that had all the essential
items on it. "Only thing is it's hard to put it on right all the
time."

She looked him up and down. "Let me help you, and I'll speak to the healers
and make sure they send someone up every time you need the dressing changed."

"N-now?" He gulped and stared at her.

"It's hurting, isn't it. I can tell by the way you're moving." He did seem
awkward.

"Well...yes, but you're a gold rider, you seriously shouldn't be
tending to a bum like me."

"You're a rider in our weyr who needs help, now I can do it, or I can have
an apprentice healer come up."

He quailed under her look. "Okay, okay, just please, make it quick."
He hobbled a bit, trying to get his shirt off so she could tend the
wound.

Teseada got to her feet and reached out to help him. "It'll be easier if I
undo the fastenings," she suggested.

"Okay." He could feel his face go beet red in embarrassment.

She was quick, and tried not to look too hard as she undid it, and move it
so he could ease himself out of the shirt. "Better?" she asked.

Feeling as shy as a five turn old girl, he nodded and hunched up a bit
as she worked on his wound.

}:There's no reason to be shy, she's nice:{ Eirath said to him. }:And
Onnyth is lovely too.:{

"Okay," she said. "I'll try and do this quickly." She unfastened the
bandage, and slipped it off, before reaching for a pot of salve with a
healer's handwriting on it. "Here I go, this one says it's to ease
inflammation."

He winced when it felt it go on, but didn't cry out. Out on the
ledge, his brown crooned at him.

"I'll have the healers send some willow bark tea up if that hurts," she said
as she smoothed the last of the salve over the wound.

"They'll need to send up the whole tree then." He smiled to let her
know he was teasing, sort of.

"Or two maybe?"

"Or the whole forest." She had a lovely smile and he found himself
responding to it.

"Imagine that," she said with a grin. "There would be no willow trees left
on Pern!"

"Geez, I hope I heal before_that_happens." A ghost of a smile tugged
at his mouth.

"Me too, what would we do with all the other weyrfolk who need it?"
