Teseada

Teseada

She was in the weyrbowl, waiting for the young harper with the cute smile.
Teseada smiled to herself, he seemed nice, and maybe, just maybe she might
be able to make a friend who wouldn't be bothered about the colour of
Onnyth's hide.

"Hello!" Daran walked out from where the shadows were hiding him. It
was early evening and getting dark.

"You made me jump," she said with a little embarrassed laugh. "I wasn't
expecting you to come from that direction."

"Did I?" He covered up a sheepish grin. "I'm sorry!"

"Don't worry about it," she said. "You won't be the first or last to
surprise me."

"Oh yeah? You got a gaggle of other boys who do the same thing then?"
He couldn't resist teasing her a bit, seeing as she was pretty when
she smiled like that.

"No, not really," admitted Teseada. "Suprising me is usually the last thing
on their minds."

"Well, with a smile like that, I'm sure they do have their minds on
other things altogether." He shyly ducked his head down, but it was
true. She did have a lovely smile.

"Well I'm sure you've heard things about us weyrbrats, haven't you?" she
teased him.

"That you guys get all the dragons? Yep, I have." He grinned at her
and indicated the crock of his arm for her to take.

She took his arm. "That wasn't really what I was thinking of, and I'm sure
you know what I mean," she said. "There have to be some songs that aren't
sung outside of taverns that talk about it."

"Well, people say a lot of things, but that's for them. They also say
a lot of things about harpers." He nodded at that.

"They say you're all perfect gentlemen, and discreet, always to be trusted,"
she said as they walked along. "Or so I hear."

"Yes, so if you have some really god gossip, I'm the man." He tapped
his chest and laughed. Whilst he had heard stories--bad
stories--about women at the Weyrs, he also heard terrible stories
about harpers and what not.

"If only these walls could talk," she said. "I bet they have some Harper
tales to tell us."

"Well, it'd be more interresting than what goes on in the Holds,
that's for sure." His eyes filled with laughter, at that thought.
"So, did you Stand?"

"I've taken to the sands in the past," she said. "But I'm happy enough to
watch now."

He patted the poor girl's hand, feeling sorry that she hadn't
Impressed. "Well, I suppose it can't happen for everyone. At least
you get to practice a Craft and enjoy a lot of freedoms that a lot of
women here in the South would love to have."

It seemed he'd misunderstood, she thought. Still she hadn't told an
outright lie. "I did think about going to study at the Technicians Hall for
a while."

"Yes? What happened?" As they walked, they went up the path into the
woods that led to the upper lake.

"My father changed my mind."

"Hows that? And here I thought you weyr girls were free to ignore
your fathers," he teased her.

"He pointed out what being a weyr girl might mean at the Hall."

"Ah...that." He sighed again and patted her hand. "Well, it's just
Holder prejudice, I suppose, or the fear of being around something
they don't understand or know. I have to admit I was a bit taken
aback the first time I ever went to a Weyr and saw guys kissing and
holding hands. But you quickly learn it's not about you and what you
think, it's about letting someone live their life. So..boys
kissing..and girl's learning..there's nothing wrong with that." He
grinned at her and gave her a wink.

"Or even kissing girls," she said, feeling quite daring.

"No, nothing wrong with that either." He patted her hand.

"Especially when the right girl, and the right boy find each other to kiss."

"True." He stopped to look at her.

She looked at him. "My mother always told me I'd know when I met the right
boy."

"And is she always right?" He took her hands in his.

"She says she is," she took a step closer, enjoying being near him.

"Well then..." Gently he leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips.

She was pleased he'd taken the hint, and with a kiss like that - well it was
right. "I know she is right," Teseada said softly after the kiss broke.

"Mother's always are."
