Description: Onnyth clutches!
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 26 of Turn 6
It was the middle of the night. The egg heavy queen had finally woken her
rider as she made her way to the sands.
By the time Teseada got there, one egg lay gleaming in the reflection of the
glows she'd just opened.
**Beautiful,** Teseada told her. **Can we ask Hasaarth and his to join us?**
}::Come! Eggs!{ Onnyth didn't wait to call her mate. }:See them before
anyone else, see what we made.:{
Hasaarth's brassy, proud bugle shook the Weyr, or so it seemed to his rider,
who had to cover his ears. He had gotten up in the middle of the night to
check on his dragon, for some reason, and had been standing right next to
him when the call obviously came.
**Hurry! My beautiful mate is laying eggs!**
He grabbed his boots in his hand and raced to leap onto his bronze and they
soon appeared at the Hatching grounds. Hasaarth could not wait and went
right inside, while J'darin danced around for a moment putting boots on to
protect his feet.
His hair was shaggy and his face sleep-tossed, but his eyes burned with
excitement as he called out to Teseada. "I'm glad I happend to be already
awake, or he'd have left me sleeping, no doubt, the proud, besotted fool."
He was grinning as he joined Onnyth's rider.
"Hello beautiful Onnyth." He offered his greeting to the queen. "Thank you
for letting us watch." He looped an arm around Teseada and smiled at her.
"And thank you, lady."
}:You are beautiful! I am so proud of what we have done! There will be
many eggs and many fine, strong hatchlings from our mating, Onnyth.:{
Hasaarth sent to the queen, coming as close as she would let him.
Teseada gave the bronzerider a smile, leaning into him for a moment. "She
enjoys being the centre of attention like this."
As she said that, it became clear that there were now seven eggs on the
sands. "This will be a good clutch, I know it."
J'darin nodded in agreement. "Hasaarth is convinced of it and so am I.
Already seven..." He turned his attention toward the queen, enjoying the
sight of another clutch sired by his bronze coming to be before his eyes.
There were already more eggs! "How many do you think, Teseada? I'm
thinking 38 or 39... what do you think?"
"Anything over thirty, I hope," as another egg was revealed as Onnyth moved
herself to another spot.
"Hasaarth says there will definitely be over 30 because he's the father."
The bronzerider grinned. "But I just want them all to be healthy and have
partners waiting on the Sands. Care to make a wager, goldrider?"
"You're tempting me, bronzerider," she replied, her tone matching his. "But
what does the winner get?"
"I think we can come up with something, Teseada." He grinned at her. "How
about the loser has to bring the winner breakfast in bed, or dinner in bed?
Winner's choice?"
"Then I accept," she held out her hand to shake on it. "I say around thirty
four, maybe thirty five eggs."
J'darin grinned, shaking her hand. "Hasaarth and I say 38 or 39." Proud,
them? Not so much.
"She's the only one who knows, and when she's ready she'll show us," Teseada
replied.
Some time later a smugly satisfied gold dragon settled herself comfortably.
}:These are my eggs, you will find strong riders for them,:{ Onnyth declared
to Teseada and Hasaarth.
"We promise we will, beautiful Onnyth." J'darin offered when Hasaarth had
relayed the message to him. He peered around the queen, trying to count
the eggs on the sands. "You're right, Teseada. She'll show us.... but is
she ready to show us yet?" He grinned a little foolishly.
"Can we look?" asked Teseada aloud, not wanting to do anything to disturb
the gold.
}:You may, count them and show thw Weyr what we have done.:{
"She says we can count them."
J'darin went to one side, while Hasaarth crooned beautifully at his mate,
and began to count them. He was at about 16 when he met Teseada in the
middle. "So lovely, aren't they, Hasaarth?" He said aloud, to his bronze,
who was still crooning to Onnyth. "How many did you get, Teseada?" His
smile was genuine and warm.
"I make 17, that's 33 altogether." A smile was on her face. "Over thirty new
weyrlings, thats good for the Weyr."
He had secretly been hoping for more, but this would be wonderful for the
Weyr, she was right. "Fantastic job! Thats 33 and you win, Teseada." He
winked at her. He turned toward Onnyth and bowed respectfully. "Great
work Lovely lady." After a moment, he was overcome with happiness for
Hasaarth and the Weyr and grabbed up the goldrider and swung her around
again. "What a great night, goldrider!"
"It's amazing," she said as the caverns swung past her. "We'll have another
good night when they hatch."
"Here's to good nights and strong hatchlings!" He put her down and relaxed.
Now it was just to wait until they Hatched!
