Help With The Kiddies

Writers: AL, Len
Date Posted: 18th June 2011

Characters: Meledei, Sh'del
Description: Meledei offers her services to Sh'del while she can't fly.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 22 of Turn 6

Meledei swung to a stop and rapped on the door of the Weyrlingmaster
Second's office, then opened it once she got leave to enter.  She
grinned over at Sh'del as she guided herself inside and used one of her
crutches to 'kick' the door closed.  "Hey Sh'del, got a minute?"

"Hmmm...I've got forty-six little dragons and their obnoxious lifemates
to keep in order..what do you think?"  None the less, the burly man
grinned and jumped out of his seat to come around and help her to the
empty seat in front of the desk.  "Do me a favour..don't let Elleth
have this many eggs."

Meledei giggled and shook her head.  "I doubt she'll have that many,
especially on her first clutch, but I can't guarantee it for future
ones."  She made her way over to a chair and lowered down.  "So, I'm
sort of off Threadfall for a while."

"Great, you wanna help out with the kiddies then?  We could use the
help and it might give you and Elleth a distraction."  As he was
talking he was pouring her  a cup of klah and eying the basket of
fruit and sweets.  He handed her both, adding, "make sure anything you
want in that basket hasn't been picked over by Trouble first."  The
green flit was sprawled on her back, snoring away, with a suspicious
large lump in her stomach.

Meledei giggled.  "That's exactly why I came!  To offer my services to
the Weyrlingstaff, as long as I don't have to be speedy on my feet."
There was no way Meledei was going to be running any time soon.  "Of
course, my duties as a goldrider will have to come first, but it will
be nice to be useful during drills."  She accepted the klah and lifted
the mug in silent thanks before taking a sip and peering into the
basket.  She picked out a redfruit and took his advice to inspect it
before taking a bit.  "So, want to use me?"

"Yes, it'll be nice to counter all the testosterone of the Weyrling
staff with a female presence.  It'd be good for the girl weyrlings as
well."  He waved Trouble away from the bowl as she came over to nibble
on a few more fruits, having woken up by the sound of good food being
eaten.

"Well, I'll do what I can."  Meledei's eyes twinkled merrily at Trouble
and she took a bite of her own fruit.  "Got anything specific you want
me to do?"

He studied his flit yawning and stretching before answering her.
"Work with the girls for a bit? I'll have to think up something for
you to do."

"I guess we have some time."  Meledei leaned over and grabbed her
crutches, then stood and eased them under her arms.  "Just let me
know.  I'll be around."

"Leaving so soon?"  Sh'del mocked pouted and Trouble rub her head
along the girl's arm.

"Hey, we both have things to do."  Meledei pointed out with a chuckle.
"I may be on crutches, but that doesn't get me out of _all_ of my
duties.  Don't worry though, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of each
other soon enough."

"True enough."  He walked her to the door.  "How's the healing coming?"

"Slowly, but study."  Meledei swung after him and waited til he opened
the door to launch past.  "I'll come by tomorrow when I would normally
have drills."

"Great, see you then!"
