Description: Qorri brings Jylanya to introduce her to the Hallmaster as a candidate for Headwoman at the hall.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 22 of Turn 6
Jylanya dressed in the best of the two dresses she'd brought with her
to the Weyr and wended her way to the headwoman's office to which
she'd been summoned. She was thankful Qorri had a possible solution to
her discomfort with the Weyr's culture. She didn't judge them in the
least only knew that their style of life wasn't as comfortable for her
as she'd hoped. She arrived at the office door and knocked firmly.
"Come in please," replied the owner of the office. Qorri was ready to
see the matter settled, though it would be up to Famell ultimately.
She opened the door and walked in. Qorri was at her desk. "You wished
to see me ma'am?" She smiled and nodded pleasantly to Qorri.
Famell, who'd decided to make the trip to the Weyr himself rather than
sending one of his journeymen, moved to the hallways he'd gotten used
to rather easily. He knew where the headwoman's office was as he'd
visited a few times since gaining his position. She'd also sent down a
message that had piqued his interest, related to the need he had
within his hall.
Knocking on the doorframe, for the door was already ajar, Famell
called out, "Okay to enter Qorri? Famell here." He poked his head into
the opening, then paused as he noted someone else was already there.
"I can come back," he added quickly, not sure if he had intruded.
"Please do." She was standing, readying to introduce the both of them
once Famell came in. "Master Famell, this is Jylanya. Jylanya, this is the
Dolphin Hallmaster. She's the one I told you about." Qorri widened her
eyes slightly, hoping he would remember.
Jylanya bobbed a small curtsy, "Master Famell." She smiled and stepped
aside so he could greet the Headwoman. Her curiosity was piqued by her
last few words and she looked back and forth between the two of them.
Famell entered the room and smiled to both women. "Pleasure to see you
again, Qorri." Then turning to look at Jylanya, he added, "It's nice
to meet you Jylanya. As the Headwoman said, I'm the Dolphin Hallmaster
and it turns out we're looking for a new Headwoman to run our hall.
Qorri, here, has said she thought you might be a good candidate for
the position." He looked toward Qorri and then back to the red-haired
woman. He wanted to resolve the matter of Headwoman for the hall as
soon as possible, but he did have to make sure she was a suitable
candidate.
She watched Jylanya, wondering what she thought about it. Qorri hoped
the woman would take the opportunity since she had heard that Weyrlife
likely wasn't going to work for her in the slightest.
"Very nice to meet you too sir," Jylanya replied. "I hope to live up
to her confidence." She smiled at him and sent a grateful look to
Qorri. "I have some experience in helping run my husband's hold." She
didn't add that she'd done it without her husband. She was a hard
worker and just wanted the chance to show him she could do the job.
She still felt the Hall would be a better fit for her than the Weyr,
no matter how nice some of the people were. "Sadly he's passed on and
I am without position there anymore."
"Understandable," Famell replied, "so are you open to trying your hand
at the Dolphin Hall? I'll admit it's not an easy feat, as with most of
us intent on the craft and the dolphins we often put many demands on
the Headwoman and her staff. Yet, to be honest, I'm about run ragged
trying to fill in for our former Headwoman. None of the women of the
Hall seem suited to being in charge and leading, so I've had to do far
more than I'd care to admit. We are fairly desperate and if you're
willing we can get you started right away. Give it a trial run and if
you're happy, then we'd be thrilled to have a true Headwoman once
again."
Her smile broadened. "Master Famell, I would be quite willing to step
in immediately." Whatever qualms she had about newly formed
friendships were only minor compared to the possibilities of having
her own solid position at the Hall. She felt her skills were equal to
the task. "I'm confident I can take a leadership role and with Qorri's
help," she threw another grateful look at the Weyr's Headwoman, "I'm
certain we will succeed." Well that came out a little more confident
than she intended. "A trial run would be very acceptable." She nodded
at them both.
"Fantastic! I can take you down to the Hall myself, but I imagine you
have some things you'd like to pack. Perhaps Qorri can walk you down
when you are ready or you can send a messenger to us and either myself
or one of my journeymen will come up to escort you down. I'm sure
you'll have many questions, as do I, but honestly, we are so
desperate, I think that with Qorri's approval, we can forego those
questions for another time." Famell was thrilled. He was _very_ tired
of having to step in and try and keep things in running order and
could not wait to turn those reins back over to someone who belonged
in the kitchens and could whip things into shape. "I must admit, with
the fact that we've been using whomever we could to get things done,
the Hall is in a bit of disarray. You'll have your work cut out for
you when you first arrive, I'm afraid." He thought back to the dishes
that he knew hadn't gotten washed and the linens that were just thrown
in a pile. Some of the wives were helping, but since there just
weren't as many of them and none seemed equal to the task of managing
it all, things had gotten a bit disorderly. Now, finally, he'd have a
Hall that was the way it was supposed to be, or at least he hoped so.
"I'll provide whatever help I can and I can certainly get her packed and
down there." Perhaps knowing who exactly was in charge down there and
having her owing Qorri a favor wasn't such a bad thing, either.
Jylanya sent a grateful look to the Weyr's Headwoman, from the sound
of it she'd need all the help she could get and _then_ some. "I'll
get packed as quickly as I can. There will only be one small bag for
now. I don't have that much." She'd come to the Weyr with only the
one bag and her feline. "I can be ready in half a candlemark."
"Wonderful. Well, if Qorri will be walking you down, then I'll meet
you there when you arrive," Famell turned to Qorri and smiled. "Thank
you." Then looking to Jylanya he added, "I _truly_ look forward to
having you join the Hall."
