Description: Tiernan attends the Hatching, and spends time with Meledei
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 18 of Turn 6
The Hatching had been beyond anything Tiernan could have expected. He
didn't realize how awesome an experience it was, and he was glad to
have been able to attend. At the Feast afterwards, he found himself
surrounded by a crowd of unfamiliar people, and he sought out Meledei
for familiar company. After a bit of searching, he found her off to a
corner in a chair.
"Well there you are," he said with a charming grin. He had managed to
get a nice outfit for the event from one of the Headwoman's
assistants, which complemented his tan well.
"Hey Tiernan!" Meledei hadn't been able to mingle like she wanted, her
leg unwilling to sustain her. She was supposed to be on crutches soon,
but they hadn't given them to her just yet. "Did you enjoy the
hatching?" While it was horrible about his ship, she was glad that
there was something good that came out of his time off.
"It was incredible," he said, his voice filled with awe. "I can't
imagine what it's like to actually be standing down there and Impress
your own dragon," Tiernan said. "By the way, next time we meet, you
owe me a dance."
"You'd better be at my Elleth's hatching feast to claim that dance."
Meledei's eyes twinkled with amusement at the demand, but she had done
similar to him. "So there. I'll not let you claim one before then!"
"Fair enough!" Tiernan said. "It's good to see you out of the bed,
even if you are confined to a chair. Has anyone gotten you anything to
eat or drink yet, or would you like me to pick something up for you?"
"Oh, I had some wine earlier when I was talking to the weyrleader."
N'vanik had gone elsewhere, but that was fine. No one should be stuck
with Meledei the entire night! "But I wouldn't mind something to eat!"
"Sure, let me go get you a plate," Tiernan said, glad to be useful. He
quickly found his way to the table where the food was setup, filled
two plates with a good variety of everything, then headed back to
Meledei's side. "I can't remember the last time that I've seen food
this good."
Meledei accepted the plate and picked up her fork, spearing some meat
that looked like it had been marinated in a bunch of spices. "And
there's always a lot at feast. You should have gotten some for
yourself!"
"You're going to eat two plates of food?!" Tiernan exclaimed in shock.
"Well, how about I eat this one for now, and I'll go get us seconds if
necessary." He dug into his food eagerly. "Wow. I think I might need
to see about moving here full time..."
"Of course I am." Meledei giggled to show that she was, of course,
joking. "The food is good here. At least you get to be spoiled for
the month that you're on leave." It would be nice to have him around
for a while. "I should introduce you to some of my friends once I'm
out of the infirmary."
"It's going to be interesting for me, I don't remember the last time I
stayed somewhere for more than a sevenday or so at a time. I would
love to meet some of your friends," Tiernan said, smiling at the
goldrider.
"Before you leave, you'll have a whole bunch of new friends that you'll
have to make sure you write to." Meledei grinned then wince as her
body tried to shift and get into a more comfortable position, which
only aggravated the scoring. "Sharding injury."
Tiernan eyed Meledei with concern, stoking her hand lightly with his
fingertips as she adjusted herself. "Well at least it can only get
better from here," He said optimistically. "And I have to admit, it's
kind of nice having you as my own captive private audience!" He
teased. "But if I meet all these friends of yours, I fear I'll need a
more reliable firelizard to communicate with everyone."
"There might be someone with a clutch. I can ask around for you and
see if there is." Meledei couldn't remember anyone recently, but she
had been rather busy as of late. "Squirt not really reliable, huh?"
"He's good most of the time, but after the storm he became a bit
flaky," he said. "He didn't want to leave to get help right away, so
that set back our rescue a decent bit. I'm hoping that another one
might be a little bit less afraid of everything."
"You should try a nice sturdy brown or a bronze. I do have a thing for
golds." Meledei grinned broadly and winked. "But I'll ask around, see
if I can find anyone with a clutch who might have some. You can't
really tell from the eggs what they are, but generally, the larger the
egg, the more likely you're to get one of the larger colours."
"That would be nice, I'd really appreciate that," Tiernan said. "Have
the healers given you any estimate on when you can move back into your
own weyr again?"
"Within a sevenday." Meledei wrinkled her nose. "They're going to
start getting me out of bed and moving around in a few days. To be
honest, I think I can go home earlier but I think they want to make
sure there's no infection." And, of course, she wasn't a healer, but
still.
"Well, if you need any help at all, just let me know. I have a weyr in
the lower caverns right near the Dining Caverns if you need me. I
don't have much planned to do while I'm here, other than stop at the
Dolphin Hall's dock," Tiernan said.
"I'll be sure to do just that." It really stunk about his ship, but
Meledei had to admit, she was kinda glad that Tiernan was going to be
around - at least for a little while.
