She had made her official hello and congratulations. Now, she was free
to enjoy the hatching. She had been to Jyramikah's hatching, but this
was different. There was more pomp when a Weyrwoman's eggs were on the
Sands. Of course she had plucked a few things from the food tables.
Finishing off a small fruit, she licked her lips and surveyed the people
around her.
There were quite a few people at the hatching. Those from other Weyrs
had come, of course, along with various holder people within the
territory. Meledei was among them, but unlike most of those around her,
she was seated. A glass of wine was in her hand and she sipped at it
slowly. Of course people had come to talk to her, R'enh had been kind
enough to help her, but she'd shooed him away so he could enjoy himself
without hovering over her. He didn't need to be saddled to one spot
after all. Her eyes caught the sight of a woman just as that gaze
moved toward her. Meledei nodded politely, offering a small smile.
**Who is that one?** She tried to think, then it clicked. This must be
Meledei, the youngest. Rhosyn walked over, slowly. She nodded to the
younger rider. "Hello there. You must be Meledei."
Meledei had let her gaze drift away until the woman approached her.
**_What_ is she wearing?** She couldn't help but note the dress.
Or...almost lack of one. **Good grief.** But the smile on her face
was polite as was the gentle tone of her voice. "Yes, I'm Meledei.
And you are?" She, herself, was in a simple dress of light green. It
had been the one fetched for her and Meledei wasn't going to
complain. She was just glad to be there, though she didn't think she
was going to last too much longer.
"Rhosyn of River Bluff. I didn't get to meet you last time." She came
closer so that she would have no trouble hearing Meledei.
"Ah, Weyrwoman, a pleasure to meet you." Meledei kept her gaze on
Rhosyn, but no attempt was made to rise. "I hope you enjoyed the
hatching and are enjoying the feast."
"So far I am. You all have good food." She looked down at what Meledei
was eating. "So, how long is it until you'll have one of your own then?"
"Not _too_ long now. One can't know for sure, but there's thinking it
will be in the next few months." Meledei _wished_ it was easier to
determine. She had to admit that she was a bit eager for her dragon to
rise and have her own clutch. It would certainly be exciting when
Elleth did! Meledei took a sip of her wine then looked back at the
Weyrwoman from where she still sat in the chair. "You just had a
hatching fairly recently, didn't you?"
"Aye and the weyrlings are doing well so we're happy. It's always good
to have more dragons." Rhosyn would have eggs all the time if she could.
She loved the anticipation, though she missed flying with her wing. "Any
favorites you'd like to win?"
"Yes, actually." Meledei's eyes scanned the room, but the young man in
question couldn't be found. She wondered if Z'ku was dancing with
someone and really wished she could claim a dance of her own from him
and other friends of hers. "His name's Z'ku. He'd be my pick."
"Good. Always good to have at least one you know. It seems you're
comfortable with the idea. Then again, you were Weyrbred if I remember
right. Just keep your head about you and you'll be fine." Rhosyn
thought back to her first time and what it had been like.
"Yes, born and raised in a Weyr, first Thayan Peak, then Dolphin
Cove." Meledei had to admit there were advantages to that. After all,
she didn't have a lot of hangups that most holder folk did - though she
did have some holder tendencies that a lot of the Weyrfolk thought
odd. Perhaps because of her holder born and bred parents. Personally,
she didn't think they were odd, but Weyrfolk just didn't have that sort
of attitude most of the time, so she stood out.
Meledei shifted and winced visibly. She was getting tired and her hip
was starting to ache.
**Elleth, would you ask Mnoranth to ask R'enh to take me back?**
Meledei was probably going to get a scolding from the healers for
staying as long as she did.
}:Of course:{, Elleth agreed as she passed along the message.
"I hope you'll forgive me." Meledei offered a wan smile, the pain that
had flared keeping it from being bright. "I need to keep a look out for
someone. It was really good to meet you though." And yet she still did
not rise from her seat.
"Is there anything I can do to help you?" she offered naturally, not
wanting to leave the girl when she was in obvious discomfort.
"Not really." Meledei did appreciate the offer, though - it was nice
of her, especially as a stranger to the Weyr. "I just need to rest,
get back to the infirmary. They're probably going to chastise me for
staying out so long as it is."
"What happened, if you don't mind me asking?" Rhosyn was curious.
"Nah, I don't mind. I just got scored in Fall. It's not too bad, but
I can't put any weight on my right leg right now. I got hit on the hip
and thigh." Yes, it could have been a _lot_ worse had Elleth not been
so quick thinking.
"So glad you weren't seriously hurt." That brought many thoughts into
her head. **For thread that dangerous to get through to the queens,
they have to have thin wings** N'vanik needed help. Perhaps with the
need being greater, Dolphin Cove's golds would start rising more
frequently.
"Yeah, me too." Meledei shrugged. "It's all part of the job." Though
really, a green was out of formation and that had been the whole reason
she'd gotten scored, but Meledei didn't want to sound like she was
complaining and she knew the greenrider felt really bad about what had
happened.
"Well, I have to go and make nice, but I hope you feel better. It was
good to finally meet you." Rhosyn saw some people passing by look at
her and she smiled.
"It was nice to meet you too." Meledei gave a small wave and then
rolled her eyes. Yeah, men always went for the obvious.
