Notes: I apologize if this is a Threadfall day - I couldn't get to month 8 on the website to check!
A few mornings after he'd been with Ciara, R'yin was
huddled over a mug of klah. His eyes were bloodshot
and he looked like he hadn't slept. He looked all
around miserable, like a sad puppy. With a sigh, he
didn't even look up when he heard footsteps passing by
his table. He wasn't sure he was good company, even
if someone did want to talk to him this morning.
"I can tell you're not in the mood to talk, and I
respect that, but I'm still going to sit down." She
seated herself across from him lightly.
R'yin looked up and noticed a very lovely woman seated
across from him. He found her forth-rightness very
welcoming, though, compared to the mass of confusion
and pain that Ciara brought him. "Syntara, isn't
it?" He offered, by way of saying it was fine with him
if she sat there. A little life began to stir in his
dark brown eyes.
She nodded and started sorting out her mass amounts of
food. "It seems you and I are in similar moods. I'd
bet we both have the opposite sex to thank." She
winked at him in a friendly manner.
In spite of himself, R'yin laughed at her comment.
"Indeed. You're a very perceptive lady, Syntara. Shall
we share our woes of the opposite sex and hope to heal
them in the sharing?"
She finished a particularly long draught of klah,
"Only if you start."
R'yin forced a smile on his face, meeting Syntara's
open gaze with one of his own. "Easy enough, lovely greenrider. I fell in love with the mother of my daughter, and she did _not_ fall in love with me."
There was more, of course, starting with the night
spent in her arms, but he didn't think Syntara really
wanted _that_ much detail.
Syntara sighed. "We suffer from the same problem. The
man I love isn't in love with me, either." Like R'yin,
Syntara held back much of her story. "Shame we can't
just be in love with each other." She cocked an
eyebrow and winked at him over her mug of klah.
R'yin laughed again; twice in one candlemark - it was
amazing! His eyes shone briefly at her. "Hmmm.. that
is a shame. Do you suppose we should try? That would
serve them both right!" He returned her wink. She was
lovely, and he liked her outright honesty.
"I'm not entirely opposed." Syntara was quite pleased
with how breakfast was turning out. She doubted
anything would come of this, but she enjoyed herself
none the less. "A respectable, honest relationship
would be rather... lovely." There was a deep sort of
sadness in her eyes.
"Honest being the best part, aye, Syntara?" He sighed
softly, his own eyes showing the same sadness. After a
few moments, he went on. "Can I interest you in more
time together, perhaps this evening? We can discuss
our options for falling in love with each other." His
brown eyes twinkled briefly in fun, and he began to
feel more like himself than he had in turns.
"I can't promise that I'll be the most romantic of
moods tonight, but I would love the company." Things
were turning out better than expected today. "Broken
hearts take time to heal, after all."
R'yin smiled briefly at her, his eyes sad. "Yes, they
can take turns sometimes. But friendships..and more..
can form in an instant. I'll meet you this evening
then? You could even come to my Weyr if you like. I'm
sure Aerrath will share his ledge and like the
company."
