What I did wrong?

Writers: Chelle, Paula
Date Posted: 17th May 2011

Characters: Im're, Rhosyn
Description: Rhosyn comes to see the injured bluerider.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 15 of Turn 6

She had waited until the boy had had time to recover from the shock of what
happened and to make his peace with the challenges he was going to have to
overcome. Still, she remembered the weyrling he had been when she'd first
come and Rhosyn hated to see the young wingriders blooded.

Speaking with the healers, she made sure it was okay to enter. And then she
made her way quietly into the chamber.

Im're was just staring at the ceiling. He didn't hurt. The healers kept him
well on pain medication and on numbweed. But his mind was going through
the Fall all over again, trying to see if there was something he should
have done, if they somehow should have been able to avoid the injury.

"Im're," came her small voice, not wanting to cause him a headache. Rhosyn
took a seat where he could see her easily, but she didn't say anything
else, just letting him know she was there.

"Weyrwoman," Im're turned his head to look at her and greeted her. He was
actually glad of the interruption. His thoughts were so morbid company. He
managed a smile that was half grimace.

"Do you need more numbweed?" she asked easily, not wanting him to be in more
pain than he needed to be.

"No, I had plenty of that. I'm not in physical pain," Im're said. "I've just
been trying to figure out what I did wrong. Should we have avoided the
injury?"

"It was a bad threadfall. You weren't the only one injured. And as riders,
we have to accept that sometimes this sort of thing happens to us all. I
say just be grateful it wasn't worse." Rhosyn hoped that made him feel
better. She had to be honest, though. "I will say, though, that your lack
of experience probably didn't help you any, but that's nothing we can
change except keep training and working.
The more falls you fly in a wing, the better you will be as a pair."

Im're nodded. At least she wasn't blaming him outright.

"If there's anything you need, let the healers know. Once Y'gel clears you,
you will be flying with me."
She wanted him to think about that now. "We'll work together on getting you
better so that by the time you do get back, you'll be well ahead of the
curve."

"Yes ma'am," Im're nodded. Considering the serious of their injuries, he
wasn't really surprised.

"Gormth is doing well, though." She smiled, remembering the blue. "I think
he's enjoying the attention."

She was just trying to cheer him up, Im're decided, since he knew otherwise.
"He's missing me." He shook his head.

"Of course he is, but he is healing as are you. You both need your rest."
Rhosyn made that clear. "And the more positive you are, the quicker you
will be better."

"Yeah, yeah, now you sound like the healers," Im're grumbled.

"Well I do have dragonhealer training AND I have the sick most of the time.
So, there you are. Besides, I'm sure the healers know what they're talking
about." She looked at him pointedly.

Im're realized that he just had put his foot where his mouth was. "Yes,
ma'm. I know they're right. It doesn't make the time go faster," he said
with a humble tone.

"Would you like it if I brought you something to read?" There were plenty of
other distractions she could think of, but that was easy enough.

"That might help, thank you," the young bluerider replied.

"Allright, I'll ask the harpers to see what's available." She moved to get
up. "Is there anything else you need for now Im're?"

"No, I don't think so," Im're replied. Company would have been nice or the
past day to just go away, but you couldn't ask those from the Weyrwoman.

"Allright. Get some rest and I'll have someone bring them." She walked over
and ruffled his hair for a moment, then headed out.

Im're waved at her weakly and then went back to staring at the roof and
mulling over the Fall.
