Description: Qorri introduces herself to the new Hallmaster.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 1, day 17 of Turn 6
Famell was just checking the last of this sevenday's reports when he
heard a knock on his door. "Come in," he called out. Most of the
dolphineers knew he was more than willing to meet with them at any
time, so they often stopped by his office whenever they needed him.
He wasn't, however, expecting the woman who opened the door.
Qorri walked inside, looking around. She had been to the Hall before,
but she was curious to see this new man. Her eyes darted around the
office, evaluating him quietly and then she focused on the Master.
"Good day then, Master."
"Good day," he replied, "Do come in and have a seat and tell me to
what do I owe this visit?" She did sit, relaxing herself before she spoke.
"I wanted to extend the Weyr's congratulations on your new position.
Also, since it's my job to be the point of contact for all the hallmasters
at the Weyr, I thought I would say hello."
Famell searched his mind for who this woman from the Weyr must be, and
then it suddenly dawned on him. "You must be Qorri, the headwoman
from the Weyr?" It was stated both as a fact and a question. "I don't
believe we've formally met. And thank you for the note of congratulations.
There is much I have to learn about actually leading the hall compared to
simply being one of its many masters." Famell reached for a pitcher of
water and poured two glasses. He placed one for her to reach and took a
sip from the other himself.
She took a drink then put the glass back down. "I will provide as much
help as I can. The Weyr wishes for its crafters to be successful." That went
without saying that if the Hall was doing well that it would give back to the
Weyr in better tithes.
"That is good news, for certain." Famell stated. "We have some crafters of
our own here, but over the turns we've often had need to make use of those
from the Weyr to supply us with our needs." His fingers rested on the water
glass. "Things have been better this last turn now that we've finally begun to
get enough of our hall doing what it was designed to do. For a time after the
big storm turns ago, we honestly didn't know how we were going to recover."
"Aye well the dolphins' help is necessary for many things, so it is good for you
to prosper again. Are there any particular issues now that might need to be
addressed? Otherwise, I usually have a meeting with each Master every other
sevenday or as needed to go over things." She had brought her scheduler with
her to expedite that.
"We're a bit short-staffed of late," Famell replied. "I'll have one of
the journeymen
draw up a list of what positions we need help in and send it to you.
Perhaps, with
all your contacts you might be able to find us more of what we need to keep the
hall up and running. Most importantly, we are in desperate need of a
new Headwoman.
Guess I can't coax you away from the Weyr can I?" he asked with a wink in her
direction. "Perhaps though, you might know of some good women you could send
our way."
"I'll keep an eye open." She didn't want to lose any of her valuable
assistants, but
there were some girls that would do better in a Hall than a Weyr who
came to mind.
Some of the candidates who kept Standing and then couldn't any longer might be
perfect, especially the more hidebound ones.
"Thank you, Qorri. We'd most definitely appreciate that as at the moment we've
been using whomever we could to fill in the gaps." Famell replied.
"Other than that,
there's not much business we probably need to attend to unless you
have any questions
for me?"
"Well my thought was to ask if there will be any certain supplies
other than before
that you were dependent upon the Weyr to provide through tithe?"
Dolphin Cove Weyr
was unusual, supplying two full halls with resources, where normally
they would be
getting them from a major Hold.
"We thank you for the support you've been providing the hall. I don't
know where we'd be without it. I think, for the time, we have what we
need. I cannot think of anything besides what you are already
supplying us that we would need. However, if that changes, I will let
you know. I am truly hopeful that we can get our hall standing on its
own sooner rather than later." Famell knew it had already been far too
long for them to be relying on the Weyr for so much, but things had
just been rather slow moving in getting the hall back to its former
glory. He hoped, with him now leading, that all that would change.
"It is no problem. The harper hall will be slowly moving back to Emerald
Falls, which will allow us to get some of those resources back." Qorri
was going to be happy, since that also gave her quarters back with which
to house other crafters and Weyrfolk.
"Wonderful. Is there anything else I can do for you while you are here
Headwoman?" Famell asked.
"Not at present." She stood up and adjusted her skirts, making ready to
leave. "I bid you a good day then, Master."
"And you," he replied, already turning back to the tasks he had been
working on prior to her arrival.
