Jaylene

Jaylene

}:Ah, there's Kenaranth:{

Jaylene looked up sharply at Reanth, trying to whip a strand of wet
hair from her face. The two had just finished their sweep ride for
the day and, as usual, Reanth had turned it into a much longer ride
than what was the norm. The curious little green had wanted to look
at everything in her territory, not wanting to miss a single wild
feline or wild runnerbeast or the plantings that were occurring in some
of the small cotholds. Her rider was hot and tired and the last thing
she wanted to see was a bedmate from a month ago. Groaning, she
ducked her head down and hoped J'ren wouldn't see her.

Unfortunately, Jaylene didn't get out of it so easily. The bronze
winged his way around and came to land right next to the green. J'ren
undid his straps then dismounted and lifted a hand to greet the
greenrider. "Hey Jaylene." He called out pleasantly before untying a
sack from his dragon's straps.

"Oh, hiya J'ren. Hot day out today, eh? Think I might go and take a
nice long bath." The woman smiled and turned to walk away, her riding
straps thrown over one shoulder.

"Yeah, it is kind of hot." J'ren frowned, then turned back toward the
other rider. "Jaylene...is something wrong?"

"Wrong? Wrong? No, why would anything be wrong?" She tried to look as
innocent as possible.

"Well, I get the sense that you're trying to avoid me." J'ren swung
the satchel over his shoulder and arched an eyebrow. "Did I do
something to offend you or something?"

"No..." This was so hard! She wasn't by nature a cruel woman.
Sighing, as her options were now limited, she added, "would you like
to get a bath in too? I wouldn't mind the company."

"Well, I wasn't really planning on a bath, but if you want the
company, sure." J'ren patted his dragon, then turned to draw
alongside the greenrider. "How have you been? How's Reanth?" He
allowed his gaze to admire the pretty green before looking once more
to her rider.

"Shes good..due to Rise soon." Jaylene rubbed her face along her
shirt sleeve, trying to get the sweat from dripping from her curls
into her eyes. "How could you not be planning on a bath? It's so
bloody hot today."

Ah, maybe that was it - Jaylene was getting proddy. It would
certainly explain the strange behaviour she was exhibiting. "Well, I
wasn't really planning on a bath right _now_ but that doesn't mean I
can't go ahead and take one." He chuckled. "Might as well I suppose.
How did your sweep go? Besides hot?"

She groaned at that as they walked to the bathing pools. "Ugh..she
just _has_ to see everything in her sweep! I never knew holders
planting tubers were so fascinating..but she did." She laughed,
thinking back to the scare they had given the poor Holders, as Reanth
had circled and circled, getting lower with each pass as she watched
the whole scene.

J'ren couldn't stop the chuckle that rumbled in his chest. "Really?
She sounds like a very curious dragon." Kenaranth was content to let
things be. Things were what they were and he didn't need to know the
hows and whys, the ins and outs. He was more concerned with other
things. Like eating, sleeping, fighting Thread, chasing female
dragons, particularly golds. That sort of thing.

"Oh, she is." Jaylene shook her head. "Worse than an old auntie by
the fire, she is. Has to know everything that's going on. Should
Kenaranth ever have need of all the latest gossip, tell him to just
go ask her."

"If she remembers long enough to tell us!" J'ren laughed and shook
his head. Imagine that, a dragon compared to an old auntie. He knew
dragons sometimes gossip, but it was forgotten in the next day or two.
"I can see how that can be frustrating, but at least she isn't the
lazy sort to sit around and do nothing."

"No, that's true. I know a few who only seem to get up to eat, get
baths and fight thread." They moved into the coolness of the Weyr.
She sighed as she breathed in the cooler air.

"Kenaranth isn't _quite_ that bad." J'ren stated with a chuckle.
Though really, to be honest, what else did they _have_ to do while
their riders were busy? Occasionally Kenaranth went and played in the
lake or hunted nearby. "She sounds like she's good at noticing
things. Has she ever Searched anyone?"

"Oh yeah, loads of times. She was just okay at it though." She
walked up to where the towels were and handed J'ren two before taking
a couple for herself.

"Odd. Seems like she would be a good one considering she notices
things. I guess it's a different sort of noticing." Of course, what
did J'ren know? His bronze was a dragon and he'd yet to hear of a
bronze who was good at picking out candidates, except for the obvious
ones - the rare ones who could hear _all_ the dragons. "Come on,
let's go get that bath. Now that you've gotten in my mind, I'm
thinking it would just hit the spot right about now."

"You're on!"
