J'ren paced through the hallways, unwilling to stop for anyone, not even
those who greeted him, though he offered at least a polite nod in return.
He sifted his way through the Weyr and didn't stop until he came to a
certain door. He paused then, long enough to take a deep breath and let
it out slowly. Finally, he lifted his hand and rapped on the Weyrwoman's
door, waiting for permission before he entered.
It had been a long day. After drills and meetings, Rhosyn had gone with
Solieira to examine the state of the storerooms and their contents. She
was of the mind they could trade some of the seldom needed items for
things they did require. After cleaning the spinner webs off her person,
she was settled in her chair with a blanket to cover herself, spooning
pudding into her mouth. **Who is it?**
}:It is Kenaranth's. He seems agitated:{ Orlaith reported, gathering the
information from some of the firelizards who were perched near Rhosyn's
door.
**Oh Faranth. All I wanted to do was sit and be quiet.** Preparing herself,
she finished her pudding and put the dish aside. "Who is it?"
"It's J'ren," the bronzerider called out and waited for permission to enter
before he did so. He paused, his expression halfway solemn, halfway
indistinguishable and yet there was an attempt at a smile. "Weyrwoman."
He nodded and closed the door behind him before crossing over to close
the distance between him and her desk.
"What might I do for you this day then?" She didn't move much, though she
was still only covered with the blanket. Rhosyn's time living in Weyrs had
cured her of holders' reservations toward nakedness.
"I understand that you've asked Y'gel to take you to the Dolphin Cove
hatching."
"I have." She continued to watch him, showing no reaction, wondering just
what this was about. Surely he wasn't _that_ jealous? **Little
boys...shards**
J'ren nodded. "I would like to ask if you would reconsider and go with me."
He had a feeling he knew the answer, but he could always hope.
"Why? You don't think I should reward the Master's service to the Weyr?
You were my escort the last time." Rhosyn sounded curious, wondering if
he really understood how childish he sounded to her.
J'ren smiled indulgently. "I would prefer if you not put words in my mouth.
No, that's not it. I just wished to be honored by escorting you once again
and was wondering if you would consider the option."
"I thank you for wanting to go with me, but I'd already asked him and he
said yes. I don't think it would be fair to go back on something I have
already promised." Rhosyn wasn't the sort to do that.
"All right." J'ren inclined his head, accepting the decision. "I had to at
least ask. Thank you for hearing me out." He saluted her, then turned to
go.
"J'ren? I will promise you a dance if you go." She thought she could do that
much, anyway.
J'ren paused at the door and smiled. "I look forward to it."
